Intentional walk, 4 pitch count

Post by danmcc » Mon Aug 16, 2010 12:32 pm

We had a game this weekend in which we intentionally walked some batters. When I used the intentional walk button it added 4 pitches to the count. In our league the walk is given without pitches. Is it intentional that the pitch count goes up 4 pitches?

FTM wrote iScore w/ MLB rules as its guidepost.. so actuall pitches would be expected for an intentional walk (as it is done in the majors). as a number of youth leagues allow for intentional walks without a pitch , I believe FTM has on its list of enhancement requests the idea to create a " 'no pitch' intentional walk" button.

FYI.. iScore does not always add 4 pitches, it adds between 1 and 4, depending on count, it only adds the number it would take to get to 4 balls, (ie if batter has 3 balls, it will add only 1 pitch, if the count was 0-0 it would add 4 balls)

thsi is true for both in play > base on balls (walk) and in play > intentional Walk buttons.

I do not have a workaround for how a runner could get on w/o a pitch.

Ok, not that big a deal. In this case there were 5 or 6 intentional walks so the differential between the paper book keeper and mine was substantial. I'll just make a mental note since we will take a pitcher out based on pitch count even though it is not a league rule.

I was SO hoping that the 3.00 update would have a switch to turn off 4 balls for high school intentional walks. As it is, I have to remember how many IWs the pitcher has so I can give the coaches an accurate pitch count.

Thanks for everything you guys do. Amazing customer support.

Any idea if a button will be added soon to make a high school intentional walk with NO pitches (just tell Blue, "Put him on").

As you can see from this thread, it has not been a hot topic, so is still not that high on our priority list. It is still there, but things get higher as we get more requests. If a lot of people start asking about this, it will push it up the priority ladder.

Tonight I used In_Play -> Intentional Walk and it did NOT add 4 balls to the count. I was about to write and ask why it didn't. In_Play -> Base On Balls did add the necessary number of balls to reach 4, so I was just about to decide to only use that to signify "intentional" walks as a workaround, and just enter the 4th ball for normal walks. Am I missing something?

Using In Play -> Intentional Walk will not count 4 balls. If you want to count 4 balls as intentional, place your finger on the Ball button and slide up. This will count an Intentional Ball that counts as a pitch.
