Various Enhancement Requests

As we wrap up the travel softball season over the next couple of months, I thought I'd throw out a couple of enhancement requests, some of which I may have requested previously.

• On the Admin page, we can now lock the Scorecast replays to prevent other teams from scouting us. This is a great feature added earlier this year. I'd like to see a simplified version of the locking system. We currently have to go game-by-game, typing in (or copy-pasting) our password for every single game. I currently have over 300 games scored with two team websites. On one of those teams, several of the team parents had the password. Recently, one of those parents jumped ship and moved over to one of our biggest rivals. We then had to manually go in and "Unprotect" 180 games and then enter a NEW password to "Protect" those 180 Scorecasts again.

I'd like to see, for those with team websites, the ability to have one central location to enter/change a password for Scorecasts. Then we could just go to the Admin page to Lock or Unlock the games.

• On the actual Scorecast main page, which horizontally lists the current and prior games, I'd like to see those games listed chronologically, rather than by whichever game I happened to have last entered. If I want to refresh my memory on teams we have played months ago, I might go back and look at those games on my iPhone. However, those games now appear as the most recent on the Scorecast listing.

• Under Team Manager, I'd like to have a couple more fields to store information. (1) A secondary team color. Teams might wear primarily blue on Saturday and primarily red on Sunday. (2) A field for the team's origin, i.e. Where are they based? (3) A "Notes" field. My biggest problem in scoring a game is that multiple teams will have the same name. In fact, my two teams have the same name, just birth dates a year different. If we are playing, say, the Michigan Crushers, and they have three teams, I often don't know which team I'm playing until I get the lineups. I can't pre-enter the correct team and I have to search through the existing team and compare the roster with the lineup. Normally, I don't get the actual lineup card from our "book" scorekeeper until she has finished filling in the scorebook. This puts me WAY behind in scoring. The only solution is to create a whole new team and then "merge" them after the fact. A "Notes" field would help with that. I could enter a descriptive note to make it easier to distinguish the team prior to the game start.

• The ability to add multiple players to a team roster without having to hit "Add Player">>"Add New Player" for every single player. I NEVER select from existing players unless it happens to be girls from my teams playing pickup with another team.

• On the Team Website >> Statistics... I'd love to have a checkbox field with all my leagues rather than a drop-down box. For example, this year, my 13U team played half the year in 14U and half the year in 16U. I have a league for 2012, a league for 14U, a league for 16U, and leagues for each of the organizations (ASA, WFC, Top Gun, USSSA, etc), as well as a league for the individual tournament. If I'm looking at stats specifically for 16U, it's easy to do this year. I just set the drop-down to "16U", obviously. Next year, however, I would have to create a totally separate league for "2013 16U" so that it doesn't mix in 2012 16U. If I wanted to see 2013/ASA/14U, that's another league, as is 2013/ASA/16U. The complexities can get cumbersome. However, if we just had a box listing all of our leagues and we could check the ones we wanted to filter our stats, that would be totally awesome.

• Under the Team Manager on the device, we now have the stats of all players on an opposing team. In my case, again having two teams, both my older and younger teams might have played a common opponent. I can currently tell that the opponent might have, say, a 2-6 record. But I don't know if that's 2-0 vs my younger team and 0-6 vs my older one or what. I'd like to see simply a list of who they have played and the scores of those games. It's available on the iScorecentral page, but having it on my device would be far more useful.

Ok, that's it. Thanks again for the great product and I appreciate your consideration of any or all of these enhancement suggestions.

Thank you for the suggestions. Just to point out a few things...

In the iScorecast listing, we show the last game that had an event sent to the server (i.e. either scored game or iScorecast Syncrhonized). Most of the time, this is going to be what you want to see. The problem with showing them chronologically is that so many people now pre-enter an entire season that all of the upcoming games would be listed first and people would have to scroll back through the list to find the current game. We will try and come up with something more to allow you to sort / find games easier, but there is definitely not a "one size fits all" solution.

For the Team Manager suggestions, we will be adding more fields that you can track, but it does not address your issue of finding the teams in the list. There is not room (especially on iPhone) to display the additional fields in the team list. The best options when teams have the same name is to either put them in Leagues to separate them, or include something at the end of the name to identify which one it is (e.g. "Michigan Crushers 97 vs Michigan Crushers 98" where 97 and 98 are birth year for example).

We do have plans for faster entry of players. Again, for the "never select from existing players", that is going to depend on use case. For Travel Ball, it is not as likely you would reuse the pool of players. For Rec Leagues where the same players come back year to year and are on different teams each year, it is very common to select from the same pool of players.

For the league dropdown on the Team Websites, we do have plans for several updates for team websites, and this is one of them (selecting multiple leagues at a time for more flexibility like we allow on the device).

For the Team Manager listing, the way to distinguish and see games when it is two different leagues (would assume your older and younger team are two separate leagues) is to use the league functionality. We are not clear on this request what change you are looking for in the UI.

Thanks again for the feedback and suggestions.

That's great news! Thank you!

On the last item, I was really just giving a long-winded description of WHY I was asking for it. All I'd like to see, if possible, is under TEAM MANAGER on the device, itself, a listing of games played by that particular team, who the opponent was, and the result. Maybe via a button next to "Team Stats" add a button that is "Prior Games".

The reason I'm asking is because my younger and older teams are only a year apart and often "play up" and therefore have a bunch of common opponents. Often times, a coach on the younger team will ask "Have we played these guys before?" All I can do on my iPhone (that I'm aware of) is click on "Team Stats" and, via the stats, see how many games I've scored with that opponent and go down to the Pitcher stats to see what their record is. I don't know how to tell which of my two teams they've played in compiling their overall 2-6 record. I can't do it with Leagues because both of my teams are often playing in the same tournaments in the same age group. And, unless I'm missing something, I don't see where using Leagues would enable me to see anything differently on my iPhone at the ballfield.

I hope that makes sense. Thanks again for the upcoming changes!
