Cooperative scoring

OK, I post this after spending an hour or so with the app, which certainly doesn't make me an expert in any way.

First of all, congratulations. IScore is nearly perfect for scoring a game - all the features, situations, and statistics appear to be there for a single user, and appear easy to use. I love it.

But, it doesn't seem to do quite what I was hoping. So let me give a bit of a description; maybe I'm just missing it.

I'm a coach for my son's Little League team. One of the annoying responsibilities for each game is finding someone to be the official scorer and spend the game working on the scoresheet, as well as finding someone to keep pitch counts. Sometimes we find someone enthusiastic to do both jobs, sometimes not. In our league, the scoresheet includes the pitch count reports by pitcher, and is signed by the coaches and filed for review.

From my perspective as a coach, I like to refer to the scoresheet for performance during the game, as well as the pitch count to know where my pitcher is. Frankly, it's annoying to have to walk out of the dugout to the stands, find the scorer, and get my questions answered in the middle of the game.

What I was hoping for was an app where each coach could setup their batting order and fielding positions on their own copy of iScore. Just before the game (once all the players have more or less shown up), the coaches could share their lineups with each other and the official scorer. The official scorer could run iScore during the game, and the coaches could have essentially a read-only version of the interface that the scorer had - including all the statistics and information that the scorer can see. Perfection would be if multiple people could cooperate - one doing pitches (ball, strike, position, etc), and one doing action - fielding, running, scores, etc. At the end of the game, a scoresheet could be printed, signed, and filed (or, in the future, simply electronically filed).

This app is so close. Any possibility of beefing up the communications aspects to make this a possibility?

Thanks,
/frank

You can almost do this now.

You can use Data Sharing to transfer the rosters between devices (http://iscoresports.com/baseball/kb/faq ... _share.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and you can even share the game from an official scorer back to the coaches post game. You can not do this in real time, but the coaches can watch the iScorecast during the game if the scorer has a 3G or WiFi connection.

If you have a printer capable of using the iOS printing, you can email yourself the Scorecard and print right from the device as well.

The "shared scorekeeping" idea has been brought up before, and has its own set of challenges, but we do have it on our list of enhancements for future work.

Thanks for the reply.

Is there anything more than the minimal box score available on iScorecast? It seemed bereft of details (pitch count, etc). Is there any technical reason that scorecast can't send all the game details so that iScore itself can be used to watch?

We have an updated iScorecast coming in spring that has all the details.

@FrankSchwab.. I am not sure at what age level you are coaching.. but for my youth school and club teams, I found i can coach and score on my itouch at the same time (even base coach, because scoring can be done one handed). note most leagues we are in do not allow phones on the field but allow electronic scoring as long as not communication. i work with the umpire in chief to ensure he understands and all is usually good.

I was going to mention it earlier, but unless you play in a very lax league, they don't let you do that on the field.
