Updating players in defensive positions mid-inning

In girls (youth) softball, I often do not get defensive positions listed on the lineup, and must add girls to their positions as I recognize them (our team), or get a glimpse of their jersey number (opponent). This often happens in the middle of the inning, and iScore assumes that this is a substitution, and the new player has just started playing. Most of the time, though, this player has been playing this position since the beginning of the inning - it would be great if iScore would ask me if this is a mid-inning substitution, or if this player should be substituted in (retroactively) at the beginning of the inning.
I know that I can do this by editing the play-by-play, but that is a very cumbersome process to exit the game, find the top of the inning, and edit the player.
As it works today, I focus on getting the right pitcher at the beginning of each inning (or go out to play-by-play to update her only), and add the other fielders as I can. This works fine for scoring, but fouls up stats for starting position, innings in position, and potentially fielding stats (if a play occurs at a position before I identify the player).
Love the app - I have been using it for 7 seasons (regular, all-stars, and fall-ball) over the last two years. The app keeps getting better (and so do my scoring skills!)

Thank you for the suggest.. we will add it to our enhancement list for future prioritization.

You should be able to do this without any issue by touching the 'Misc' button and then 'Show Starting Line Up' .. You can assign defensive positions from there during any inning and it seems to properly record defensive stats correctly.

Changing position in this manner (misc-show starting lineup) affects the starting line-up only. You should not be making mid game substitutions in this way as the app will assume the position was held by that player from the beginning of the game.

So editing the starting lineup (although more cumbersome than just tapping the position to sub) will work for the first inning, but not for subsequent innings.
This definitely feels like a work-around rather than a proper fix, but because players tend to change positions less in more advanced tournaments, it might solve a large percentage of my problem.
This is a good tip Egghead, and a good caveat TeamMom. Thanks to both!

I like the OP's suggestion as well. I often find myself scrambling to get all the defensive changes keyed in prior to recording the first pitch of that inning for the very reason noted--it's cumbersome to edit it after the fact in the play by play listing. I usually end up "memorizing" the first several pitches and not recording them until I have all the defensive changes noted. Works most of the time, but the option for a "retroactive" position change is a good idea IMO.

If you make one substitution at the beginning of the inning, you can always go back in play by play and make the rest of them when you get a chance.

Yes, but as previously noted, it is cumbersome to do so.

Usually between innings the players are throwing the ball around in the field while the pitcher is taking their warm up pitches... that is the time to glance around the field looking for any changes. If you tap any fielder, the defensive sub screen comes up, and it literally only takes seconds to look around the field for changes and make them at that time. Of course, it helps when teams have jersey numbers on front and back of uniforms, but usually even the players that don't will turn at an angle you can see their jersey number at least once while throwing the ball around.
We still like the original suggestion of allowing an option to select the substitution occurred at the beginning of the inning, and have added it to our enhancement list. But just pointing out that most of the time, there is a decent amount of time where the players are in the field throwing the ball around between innings.

I'm with FTM here. I think a retroactive to the inning substitution option is not a bad idea, but I would not want it to ask me every time for every inning. The vast majority of the time, my mid-inning substitutions are for a sub right then (i.e. pitching changes).
The only time I would really like this is if I haven't set players into positions in the starting lineup. Then I have a bunch of blanks in the fielding positions at the start of the game. Once the players take the field and I can put them into their places, I have to go to Misc -> Edit Starting Lineup and select the players one by one. It is easier to use the 'Tap the position' method of substitutions to place the fielder. However, that makes the scorecard look strange. I would like the system to 'back fill' any unoccupied defensive positions with the new substitutions in the first inning.
