Adding locations & leagues

If most coaches are like me - they add the games to the 'schedule' as they come up - many times, I'm adding multiple games in a batch. In order to help streamline the workflow for creating a game, it would be nice to have a couple of extra fields added at the point of creating the game. This would save several steps for us.
  • It would be great if we had the ability to populate a list of locations. Then, when games are created in Game Manager, users could simply pull in the location from this list.
  • To take this a step further - if users had the ability to dynamically add to the list of locations at the time of creating the game (in the case where the location is not already added to the database). This new entry would then be retained in the database to be used in the future.
  • This would be different than defaulting to the 'home' team's location - in order to satisfy the need for 'home' teams not truly being a 'home' team - in tournaments for instance. Thus, the location should be a separate field that requires an entry.
  • It would also be a benefit to include the ability to identify the league in which the game belongs at the point you create the game. This would also save several steps.
Currently, inputting this information (location & league) is something that is done after the game is created - which adds several steps to the workflow.

Right after you create a game and go to the Game Info screen, you can select the League the game is for.

With location, if you enable geo-location on your iOS device, we automatically populate that when you start scoring the game as well.

Regarding the League - yes, you are correct.......but it requires extra steps taken to get to another screen and then back out again. The League data is more of a higher level metadata field as it relates to the overall game that, from the user perspective, is information that is more pertinent at the 20,000 foot level. Where as the Game Info screen has the more granular information such as the statistics, etc.

As for location - yes, you're correct. However, geo-location gives me a point on the map which must be entered at the time when I'm at that location. Whereas I'm looking for the ability to enter Yankee Stadium, Champion Fields, the Superdome, etc. in advance of arriving at the game.

If you are pre-entering games, another option for leagues is to set them in League Manager first, then enter the games. The leagues for a game default to the selected league at the time the game is created. This would save steps over even having to set the league at game creation time.

We will add these requests to our enhancement list for future prioritization. Thank you.

That seems like an awful lot of work on the programming side for very little savings on the end user side.

All things considered - the thousands of users......the tens of thousands of games that are created....

versus maybe 15 hours of dev and test? Definitely worth it.

This is the whole basis as to why this app exists - to provide users a method by which they can score a game quickly, easily, and accurately. This would further enhance the end user experience. Its the same premise as to why we have power windows in cars.
