Spray charts for pitchers

Post by Jaqt » Sat Aug 20, 2011 8:56 pm

Spent a fair amount of time this summer putting together spray charts of my pitchers. Very useful in aligning my defensive positioning.

Is there someway I can do this thru iScore?

We do not have a way of doing this directly in iScore right now, though it is something we may add in the future. You can get this information with a third party product that uses iScore data (http://edgehq.com/iscore.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;).

Out of curiosity, are you saying you find the hit charts / positioning of players is more a function of the pitcher than the hitter? We tend to find that pull hitters are pull hitters regardless of pitcher (unless a pitcher is simply overpowering everyone, then everything shifts to the opposite field).Just trying to understand the use case a bit more.

My application is used for fastpitch for girls at a high level at 16u. After I did my charts manually I found that my pitcher's had different results in their spray charts even against the same teams. I had three pitchers who were different stylistically. One could pop 67 mph and would have more hitters flare balls to the right side, and occasionally power allies. Second picher breaking baller, ground balls middle to left side. Third pitcher more straight fastballer fly balls to center and left predominantly. I don't think it as simple as a pitcher overpowering hitters and moving fielder's to the right.

Thought if I could get a spray chart for my pitcher's tendencies brought up quickly would be great help for team defense configuration. Great for putting a game plan together. I cannot have too much information.

Check out edgeHQ.. it can be an analysis dream

(pitchers definitely can have tendencies, spin and pitch type, ground ball pitchers, etc)
