Courtesy Runners

One thing I would find extremely helpful is when putting in the courtesy runner if the list of available players could be setup so that it would be very easy to identify the subs, and the last batter out. That way if we make a mistake, or the other team tries to sneak one by, it will be easier to notice.

We have had similar requests a few times now which helps us prioritize. Thank you for the suggestion.

I would also suggest, when the "courtesy runner" button is clicked, that the last TWO outs be displayed. In most of the sanctions we play travel in, you can have a runner for both the pitcher and the catcher. If the pitcher reaches base and the catcher made the last out, we'd need to know who the last out was EXCLUDING the catcher. And since we don't always mark the defensive positions, showing the last two outs would take care of that.

I've been using iscore for about a month now for two different travel softball teams for my 11-year old and 12-year old girls. I've also gone back from the scorebooks from the beginning of the season for both teams. I've been telling everyone who will listen how awesome this program is. Thanks for all the hard work on it!

Yes yes yes... I get asked this all the time who the runner should be and it's a pain to have to figure out.

And if a person is in the lineup as a sub, they would be the courtesy runner as opposed to last out.

a couple reasons why this may not be high on the developers priority list.. different leagues have different rules, Last out, last able to bat, must not be inthe game etc. in the past the developers have taken the stance this is a score what you see tool, not the managers tool . they try not to enforce the rules.

if you see runner 22 sub in as Courtesy runner, up to the coach to know if that was a legal or illegal sub .. etc.

IScore does not have to enforce the rules in this case. Just provide a means to identify the commonly used courtesy runners.

This could be done in several ways. For example:
On the line up list that comes up to select the courtesy runner sort it by subs first, then last outs.
-OR- have a button to filter the list list to show only the last two outs
-OR- a button to filter the list to show only the subs

As part of the game settings there could be options for courtesy runners - this setting would control how the courtesy runner list is shown.

The options would be something like:
no courtesy
subs
subs (catcher only)
last outs
last out (catcher only)
no restrictions (current default)

There could also be a check box - courtesy allowed anytime, courtesy only after 2 outs.

That way everything still works the same, iScore is not enforcing any rules, but it would be easier to follow the rules. Unfortunately in my first tournament as official scorer for a new team, I cost our team an out by substituting the wrong courtesy runner. Obviously not iScores fault, I got in a hurry and was sloppy - but iScore could have helped me prevent that silly mistake.

You can always tap the scorecard button and look there as well.

I coach for the younger ages, so at our games courtesy runners is usually a very chaotic swap. The head coach yelling for the courtesy runner, the sub frantically looking for a helmet and everyone on the field waiting. I'm just saying there is a lot going on in the dugout for that reason I try very hard to stay on the scoring screen and not stray from it during games. Otherwise its still too easy to get behind, and that is the single biggest problem I have with this software.

By offering some guidance in the form of suggested courtesy runners, it saves me from going to another screen or potentially misreading the pitch by pitch or trying to remember who did what. That ultimately makes it easier more accurate and keeps me from falling behind ;)

You guys have a great product and can tell by your active involvement on these forums that you want to make it even better. You guys listen, and that is probably the best "feature" your software provides!!
