I use the league feature quite heavily. It is a fantastic way to organize our games, teams and players. I noticed something this weekend that leads me to request a feature I'll call "League Inheritance."
I have a league called "2010 All Games" and another called "2010 End Of Season Tournament." There are others but these are the only ones relevant to this scenario. I created "2010 All Games" at the beginning of the season and have been careful to add all of our opponents to that league as they were created. "2010 End Of Season Tournament" was created last week for the upcoming tournament and I didn't specifically add any teams to it. Going into the weekend I turned off all leagues other than these two and began adding games as they were played. Because I have "2010 All games" enabled I see the full roster of teams. However, if I go to League Manager and select only "2010 End Of Season Tournament" the Team Manager and Player Manager do not include any teams or players not explicitly added to that league. In fact, Player Manager is quite startling because the only players showing up are the three I added during the tournament.
I know I can see all of my teams and players by re-enabling the "2010 All Games" league. It just seems to me that teams and players participating in a game in a given league should become members of that league automatically. Otherwise, it becomes very tedious to specifically edit "X" teams and "Y" players to add them to the new league which is what I would have to do if I want to see their stats for just that league (e.g. -- the end of season tournament).
So, my request: Does it make sense and would it be possible for teams and players to automatically inherit membership into leagues in which they have played games?

Re: League Inheritance
We don't think it is something we would want to happen automatically, but maybe we can add an option to allow you to select a league for example, and click a button that says "add all players that played in games in this league to the league".
We will add this to our enhancement list and try and come up with a solution for a future release. Thank you.

Re: League Inheritance
vote for optional. not by default..
regardless, as it is now, the good news of course (as you know) is the player and team stats are collected by game league assignment, regardless of the player and team league assignemnt.
When in similar situation as you, I go ahead and assign teams to the new Tourney league, but not the players. I just access players from team manager, team, roster. . I actually like having fewer names in player manager,.

Absolutely.OhioTex wrote:vote for optional. not by default..
Right. But since the teams aren't automatically in the new league I can't get stats for them for just that league without a bit of extra tapping. No big deal really but inheritance would save me a few minutes.OhioTex wrote:regardless, as it is now, the good news of course (as you know) is the player and team stats are collected by game league assignment, regardless of the player and team league assignemnt.
No argument there. My player list is stupid long. If we're going to make it optional then maybe separate options for team inheritance vs player inheritance.OhioTex wrote:When in similar situation as you, I go ahead and assign teams to the new Tourney league, but not the players. Re: League Inheritance
For those of you that keep your player manager nice and tidy, do you do that by using a "My Players" league or something like that? What's the best practice there?
Re: League Inheritance
"nice and tidy" player manager is a bit of a challenge....
but what i do is move players that are "cluttering up" my player manager to a special league i set up to hold unnecessary players , aka "player archive league'. thus keeping only players i care to see in leagues that are active.
Also a tip, (learned the hard way) do not delete players, even if tempted, in early versions it could do odd things to your opponent stats and score books... since then I just send them to the 'player archive league'
