League Import

Was curious why when an import is done the league information is not brought over or is not added to the receiving devices League Manager... We play both Nations as well as USSSA (and potentially some Top Gun) and we like to see stats by each of those sanctioning bodies. Also just started what you had suggested and now creating a league entry for that specific tournament - so as to be able to see each tournament individually as well (and have flexibility to still see it with all other tournaments for that sanctioning body or season as a whole)...

This is the most awesome app yet - and everyone is envious of us and our iPad... Truly Awesome!!!

Thanks,

gDub

Leagues are not copied for a couple of reasons, but the main reason is confusion. There are many users that do not use leagues at all, and the concept of leagues is not always easy to grasp. For users that do use them, they are incredibly powerful (as you have seen), but for those that do not use them, it causes confusion. Our #1 support question is "what happened to my games?" and the #1 answer is that the user has turned off the "All" league not knowing what they are doing.

Another reason is that different people like to use leagues in different ways, so we did not want to copy the leagues between devices (and require mapping for leagues as well). A game is the same for everyone (record of the events that took place), but a League is just a grouping of games, and some people like to group by santioning body (as you have done), some group by tournament (as you are also doing), but some group by date (so they can view the "last week of games" for example) and some group by Day/Night to be able to view stats that way. It can be very personal. So copying leagues over seemed it would cause more support issues than it would solve.

The good news is when you are importing a game from another device, whatever leagues you have active are assigned to the game being imported, so just be sure to set your leagues prior to import and they will be set correctly.

I can live with that - I guess what would be nice is if the import "Verify" screen would also show the possible Leagues and allow a quick import of those (and the default could be off for those)...

I definitely agree with your approach though - I can see where leagues may actually be almost as powerful from a statistics aggregation / presentment as iScore itself... One can look at a entire new set of sabermetrics....

So, I have put a great deal and time and effort to create a number of different leagues, ASA only, USFA only, Open vs All star vs. league, bracket games vs. pool games, then each tourney is a league. I have done scorekeeping on an iphone and just got an ipad. I have been doing the "get data from Web Database", and none of the league info came over. I plan to begin scoring all of the games from the ipad and not the iphone, is there a way to just get ALL my info from the iphone over to the ipad?

Email FTM at espnsupport@fasterthanmonkeys.com with your iPhone and iPad customer numbers (available at the bottom of the screen when you are on the Options screen) and ask them to clone your data from the old ID to the new one. This will bring everything across, including your leagues.
