Stat download by player (future.feature.request)

Post by caseyjames » Sat Jul 23, 2016 3:07 pm

Instead of downloading stats by team, it'd be nice to download all stats from all players at once.

My main reason for this is that when a player switches teams, his cumulative totals are not downloadable, only the stats from his current team. Unless, I am missing something.

Email Player Stats in Excel (not just PDF) (future feature request)

Post by FTMSupport » Sat Jul 23, 2016 3:16 pm

Go to Player Manager, select the player, view stats, and you can email the full stat history of any player from there.
Check out the new iScore Baseball documentation page!

Right, I know I can view the cumulative stats, but it would be nice to be able to download them. When players get traded within the league, their cumulative stats remain; they are only split up when traded out of their league, so that should be the default option. Or just...an option.

I am not tracking with what you are trying do - comcern.. .

Is you concern, the 'download' method (emailing) or the content ( too much or too few games )

Using leagues, You can assign and control which games to include or exclude. You can send all cumulative stats or just those for any specified games in leagues

So I want to update league leaders once a week. I email every team's stats, combine them in an Excel spreadsheet and sort. Easy peasy.

The issue that arises is when a player is traded. Now that player's stats, when emailed from the team page, only includes their stats with that team and not their total stats that include their old and new team. This is all fine if the player has switched leagues, but if they are within the same league, their stats should be cumulative. Yes, I can view their player card and see the total stats but I want to be able to export/email/download/whatever that data.

Is their an option that I am simply overlooking?

Hmm. Interim answer

Ok, getting a much better picture of your needs...

Currently iscore does not email player card stats in excel , it sends as pdf.. If iscore had option to send player manager stats in excel like iscore does for team manager --That would be an easy solve. And your request . You can view player stats on device and email in pdf but can't email in excel (or csv) (aka download). GOT IT.

You are Not missing an obvious solve.. ( ie email player card stats in excel not pdf). But i will think on ways to maybe workaround.. As not thought of this use scenerio before..

As you know, Iscore was not originally built as a "multi team league stats management "system ( aka league leaders type stats). You have worked around with excel, which sounds like a good approach. But since not designed for 'league leader type stats", issues like this have not been surfaced and overtly worked out, so you are not missing something obvious.

That said, want to think about 'work around ideas'...

One thought, in iscore is that leagues are not mutually exclusive. Leagues Do not have to be singular like AL and NL in MLB" . Leagues in iscore can be many to many - just a 'group mechanism'. . Wondering if could solve with a special 'league- group' workaround of traded player games (turning on/off individually 'leagues' and in combinations). Need to think more on this ...so far no clear workaround

The third idea i am contemplating is you could create 'two players' inside of iscore .. Eg john pre trade and john post trade .. ( that can be done manually game by game) . But that adds to your work flow in excel , having to use excel to recombine john pre and john post trade for john cumulative.. Would work, but extra work .

A fourth idea, do you have Team Web site subscriptions , team web sites can filter by league and 'easily' copy and paste to excel for more manipulation.

i want to think more on 'leagues' and try some ideas.. So this is an interium post .. Will update back later if i can think of a better workaround.

Perhaps someone reading along has bettrt ideas.

Update.

Upon further reflection, in the short term i don't see a creative way to use 'league filters' to really help you league leader stats issue for players who play on multiple teams. The real solution would be for developers to add excel email capability to players in player manager.

In the interium, the work around i came up will require developing a new workstep in excel to Sum two players ( ie john player stats pre trade plus john player stats post trade to get cumulative john player stats ) . ( obviously cant just sum columns like average Eg a 400 avg on one team and 300 on other team does not equal 350 . Will have to email stats for both teams calculate cumulative in excel then do your leader sorts

This would be a nice addition. Even more so if you could just download all the player stats at once for a specific league.

I think "download" is a poor word choice .. it tends to confuse things. Extract may be a better single word, but i think what you are talking about is capability to Email Player Stats in Excel/CSV format - not downloading it.

The player data already exists in the device and visible in the device, in the groupings you need - by new team, by old team and by combined/ career (you control the grouping by "league manager") , the Data you want can be emailed today but it is in a PDF player card format, that does not allow you to further manipulate in excel. so the primary issue/need is the "extraction" into a different form (excel/csv not PDF) .. you secondary want is to do in one step with a group of players (in a single league in "league manager") vs player by player .. ( today you can send a group of players stats for a team at once, instead of one by one, but as you noted their is an issue is for players on multiple teams , but that should hopefully be a a short list of plays 'not all' players, so a secondary issue in my mind)

another idea i had ..to get player data into excel in the near term, would be through use of Team Web site. It would require a team site subscription (if you do not already have) and a few additional copy and past steps (manual i know),

.. the basic idea is you can easily display a players stats on team web site, and developers have made the team web sites so that you can highlight, copy and paste the web data tables displayed into excel. you could do that for your problematic players. yes i understand that requires more steps on your end and not ideal, but depending on how badly you need it now, may be worth pursuing further. .

there is yet another but very much more technical version of this idea that i thought of also. This could automate much of your concerns, but requires some programming skills. once you have the team web site, iscore has a "Team Website API" available to Team Website users as described here:
http://api.iscoresports.com/teamwebsiteapi.html

With the Team Website API, developers can get access to all the data available through iScore Team Websites in a programmatic way ( including detailed player stats . You can get access to all the same data that goes into making up the iScore Team Websites as raw XML or JSON, and use it to use any way you like. the link above describes that API in more detail.

with the API and some programming skills, you could potentially automate many of the steps to gather league leader info .

i am not a programmer, so that is the extent of my API knowledge,

That is all WAY beyond me :)

See, I use iScore for a season replay in Strat-O-Matic. I am currently replaying the entirety of the 1953 season. iScore is perfect for about 95% of what I need. The other 5% includes this issue and few other minor items.

What I am currently dealing with is this:
A big trade happened in 1953, where Hank Bauer was traded from Pittsburgh to Chicago (N) on June 4th. Since he remained in the NL, his stats for league leading purposes will be cumulative. However, in iScore, his new team (Chi) only reflects his time with that team and not Pitts AND Chi. Now, looking through the transactions of the '53 season, this is the only trade that I think will have any sort of impact on league leaders (Bauer is near the top in HRs at the moment). So, I guess I can just remember that I'll need to manually enter/update his cumulative stats when I export.

I do realize that iScore wasn't created or intended for Strat-O-Matic, and some of the things I wish it could do are not applicable to its intended use/audience. But I know it is popular among Strat users and this current issue I'm having seems like a relatively easy fix that would benefit all users.

It is a small request and like I said, iScore is by far the best app for my needs, so no major gripes :)
