I'd like to see a way of assigning a category to a game and have the stats for those games viewable separately. The categories I'm thinking of are:
- Practice Game
- Regular Season
- Playoff
- Custom

This already exists. We call it leagues, but it is rally a category. Just assign the games to whatever Leagues you like, then enable just the league you would like to view stats from in League Manager, and you will get exactly what you are asking for.

Every game I score is usually assigned to multiple leagues. Below is the approach I use. I pick one "category" league from all of the leagues I have configured.
1) Season Category
2009 Spring
2009 School Ball
2009 Fall
2010 Spring
2) Age Category (My 14u's fastpitch softball team plays up into both 16u and 18u age groups)
14U
16U
18U
3) Game Type Category
League
Scrimmage
Pool
Bracket
4) Tournament Name Category
2010/02/20 Wichita Mustang
2010/03/06 Umpire Tournament
2010/03/13 Blood, Sweat and Tears
This approach lets me see how my kids are doing by Season, Age, Game Type, and Tournament.
After every tournament I send the head coach the stats for each game and overall for the tournament. He is addicted!

3rdGenBruin - you will find leagues very very powerful. Games can be assigned to as many leagues as you want to manage. Each league enables a way to agregate and slice the data as you categorize it. Don has an excelent approach.
