Is it possible/how difficult would it be to add the following stats -
Pitches thrown after inning ending error and batters faced after inning ending error.
Much like you can calculate runs vs earned runs - it would be nice to know how much extra work our pitchers put in when they should have been out of a inning. ie - you have 2 outs and the ss airmails first on a routine play. Pitcher then has to face 4 more batters instead of sitting in the dugout.
thanks,
dan

Re: Pitching Stat Question
This idea is creative, but I wonder how it could be implemented in code
...i could see it creating more questions than answers if based on scorebook errors, 2outs plus error. . In my experince one of the more subjective items in youth ball scoring tends to be errors, Plus there is a difference between scorebook errors and 'misplays' . Coaches and I often talk about 'how many outs we gave them in an inning' but it does not equal outs plus errors.
When Should "extra effort" kick after the 2out plus error. After 3 errors ? after combination of outs plus errors =3.. Ie when do you get the virtual 3rd out?
Some examples to consider , first two batters reach on drop 3rd strike .... third batter reaches on error...3 on , no hits, 1 error.. And should have been out of inning, working on 4th out.. instead no outs and 1 error
Harder one to handle real errors but next event 'evens it out' .
.no out, reach on error, next play a double play. 2up 2out 1error, that won't impact era
Or no out. Drop pop foul (error) but batter retired on next pitch (1 extra pitch, effort).. Or player reach on error, but then before next pitch picked off at first, error stands but no extra pitch effort . A harder one is questionable call by ump... should have gotten the out but no error
A have resided myself that some things get notes in my scorebook and are not stats..
