Runs-only scoring
Runs-only scoring
For our softball team we were really strapped last night because of the fact that the app makes it very difficult to play a game and score at the same time. In these situations, where we have no player on the bench or no scorekeeper, we would like to just enter the number of runs the other team scored.
We are not able to worry about batting out of order, etc, and don't care at that point about anything in the other team's offensive stats except for runs.
At the same time, we want to do our offensive scoring on the iPad.
My first thought was to have the lineup set but just enter a HR for each run they scored and then end the inning. OK, that works unless they score 10 runs in an inning and this process takes too long and our own offensive action begins. Or our only scorers are at-bat and on-deck to lead off the inning. Not very workable a solution.
SO, what would be VERY helpful for all those SB leagues out there, would be to have a game option to score only the Home or Visitor side and for the other one just let us fill in the number of runs.

Re: Runs-only scoring
I second this request. For my league softball games I only want to score my team on offense but I want to keep track of the score for both sides just like the original submitted.

Re: Runs-only scoring
I don't live in the softball arena, but why would you need iScore if you only wanted to mark scores? This could be easily, and probably more efficiently, done on paper. What sorts of stats are you interested in from iScore if you are only marking scores?
I use iScore to score baseball games while I'm in the dugout and coaching 1st or 3rd base. I find there is just enough time in between batters to get what happened into my iPad.
I'm not trying to be critical or snooty in anyway, I guess I'm a bit ignorant of how softball games progress and just wanted to provide some food for thought.
Cheers,
Jason

Jaske,
I think they still want to keep score for their at bats only and only the other teams score. So they need the app for their stats.
During the other teams at bat they could keep runs on paper then go to the ipad between innings, give HR's to the other team for runs then give 3 outs to get to their lineup.

Re: Runs-only scoring
So only interested in offensive stats, not defensive. Seems you would miss out on a lot of information that way for the players and for making informed coaching decisions, but ok.

I'm in favor of this. Jaskegreen I think all of us would LOVE to have all the other stats but we do not have a person on the bench. Last week we tried to have one of the wives score the game and that went well but then she had to leave because it was late and the chi,den needed to go to bed.

Very well said.
To answer the question about the difference between baseball games and men's softball is the speed of the game. We start with a 1-1 count. We sometimes go 5 batters with each of them hitting the first pitch. If you want to see the whole play before you score, you have about 10 seconds before the next batter is in the box and hits the ball. One missed step with the fielder's choice, error on the 2nd baseman runner to third, runner to second, runner from third trying to score but is thrown out--- YOU ARE SUNK. But that's a whole different story. FTM thinks they have a great play-entry interface and didn't even respond to my thoughts about it in an earlier post- positive or negative.
But, we DO want statistics from our team. Hits and errors on the other team are definitely secondary. A hit chart is about as good as we could ask for... but runs are the only thing that's mandatory. When we have no scorekeeper, we agree with the other team how many runs were scored, one prep pitch and batter up!

Re: Runs-only scoring
One thought although out of the box. Give the iPad to the other team when they are batting. Let their scorekeeper keep their teams at bat then send them an email with the stats and scorecard.
