Earned Run Choice
Earned Run Choice
Is there a way to change whether a run is earned or not? There is often times a discrepancy between what the program credits and what the official scorer of our games credit. I was wondering if there is a way to change it after the fact, or mark runs as earned or unearned as they score? Thanks.

Re: Earned Run Choice
We do not currently allow manual overriding, but we will in the future. We would love to know any situations where there is a discrepancy so we can fix the situation in iScore if there is in fact an issue. Thank you.

Remember to account for ...
Run
Unearned run
Team unearned run
The third is a quirky rule, however does come into play about 10-20 times in a 162 game season.

Re: Earned Run Choice
In Softball (using the Tiebreaker Rule 14.30). The run scored by the runner starting at second base is neither Earned nor Unearned and it is charged to the Team and not to the Pitcher. A new pitcher is added to the stats "TEAM" and the only stat recorded is Runs Allowed.
I see this almost every weekend - my guess is around 15-20% of games will require a tiebreaker.

Re: Earned Run Choice
The main situation I can think of is a ground single into shallow right field with a runner that is supposed to be on 2nd, but has scored on a combination of errors and/or passed balls...
if the runner would have only moved to 3rd, and the next at bat(s) result in the 3rd out, iScore scores an Earned run while it isn't.

Re: Earned Run Choice
Having the ability to manually edit results after a game is over would be great. This would help in cases where there is a judgement difference between hits and errors. This is especially useful in High School ball when the "official" scorer may not be trained and there is lack of consistency.

Re: Earned Run Choice
You can already change hits to errors and vice versa after the game, and it will automatically update earned vs unearned runs accordingly. The issue here is the very specific case of when there is a judgment call on whether a run would have scored had the error(s) not occurred. In some cases, this is truly a scorekeeper's judgment where iScore does its best guess, but could get it wrong.
