Desktop Version?

Post by Paul » Tue Mar 30, 2010 10:54 am

I know there isn't a desktop version, but have you considered joining forces (like the Super Friends!) with someone like FixedIt or something? Just throwing it out there really. I love this program, however, I don't love iPhone's battery life. Thanks, as always, for any replies this generates.

It is not likely we will create a desktop version. We will continue supplementing with the Admin Website, but a desktop version is probably not going to happen. The iPhone battery is quite capable of scoring even double headers. We will have an iPad version as well (which supposedly has a battery life longer than any laptop computers).

I would buy a desktop version. Possibly this could only be available once the product is purchased first on iphone, ipad etc.. For an additional fee. As I use iscore for fantasy gaming I wish there was a version for desktop. This would make scoring, importing historical teams and players so much easier.

I would be interested in a desktop version as well. Here's what i currently do for a softball team:

1. Keep scoresheet (paper) at game.
2. Using scoresheet software (good product, a competitor, so i won't mention it's name), recreate (basically rescore) the game.
3. Use softball/baseball software that keeps stats (it can import output format from #2).

If i had a program that could do both #2 and #3 that would be great.

Thanks.

With Iscore you can email the games to yourself for the stats and you can group games in leagues to have cumulative stats then email them separately. I think that would solve both 2 and 3

The intent of iScore is to replace #1, then #2 and #3 are automatic. Is there a reason you can not use iScore to score the game originally?

Well, a few reasons:
  • * I don't think i could score fast enough at games (at least not without a lot more practice. If i happened to make a mistake, it could be difficult to correct "on-the-fly".
  • * I have to write the lineup down on paper anyhow for the other team.
  • * Some years, the national organization collects scorebooks to determine player eligibility for all-stars.
One recommendation i just thought of: it would be nice if iScore emailed the game in a well-defined XML format, along with HTML, CSV, etc.

The Excel format is an XML format. Why would an XML format be superior to CSV? Either is easily importable.

Could you not print the scorecard PDFs to submit your scorebooks?

It doesn't take long to get the hang of scoring. You can practice by scoring some games on TV.

I bought Iscore midway through fall ball for my sons team. The way I learned to manage Iscore was to go back to the old games and load them into Iscore from the books. It did not take long until I could keep the paper scorebook for the team (because that is the umps expectation) and manage Iscore both during the game. It was great to get home, email the stats to myself, check, then forward to the head coach. Really quick and since we play saturday and sunday he would tweak sunday's lineup based on saturdays stats.

With some practice you also could keep both and save yourself some time when you get home.
