Ability to adding ! and ? to defensive plays

Post by rayboston » Tue Sep 15, 2009 5:53 pm

When I score a game, I like to make comments about great plays and poor plays with ! and ?

So a great play where the third baseman almost throws it away but the first baseman makes a great scoop would be

5? - 3!

Usually I just have the comment or one on the other. I just watched Jacoby Ellsbury make a great catch on the game I'm watching. I'd like to score it: 8!

---

I think this could be done by allowing the user to press the same position number several times in a row. Today, if I press the 8 three times in a row while scoring I'll get 8-8-8 which makes no sense.

It would be better if the extra presses would cycle. So i'd get 8 then 8! then 8? then 8 again. Since it never makes sense to score a play 3-3, for example, this would actually reduce a source of errors.

What do you think?

We are actually adding "notes" for the next version of iScore where you can add a note at any point while scoring. You would be able to use a shorthand notation like you are suggesting here in your own notes if that is what makes sense to you. Other folks have suggested "star plays", etc... so generic notes will allow all this.

The notes will also appear in scorecasts.

I like the idea of notes.

Please also consider the shorthand for adding ! and ? by double tapping.

8-8 really makes no sense.

Thanks!

We will definitely keep it in mind as the multi-tapping on the same number does seem like a good way to toggle through shortcut notations.

Thank you.

Just thought I'd ask for this again. (Though there was only one play in the Sox/Yanks game last night that could have gotten a !)

Thanks!

Since last season, we have actually added "Notes" capabilities that you can add to any play. Just "flick" the top section to the left twice, and a notes icon will appear. You can use this to add a note to any play... even something as simple as a ? or !.

I agree with "rayboston" I like the idea for pressing the position an extra time or two would put simple little notes like "! for two taps and ? for three taps". I also like the new features , but sometime due to time constraints making notes is just not possible. The old saying K.I.S.S. always works the best!
