Injured Player
We had a situation last night where a player was injured in the field, and could not continue the remainder of the game. He did not bat for a while and I totally missed the offensive substitution, when his turn did come up.
I know there have been requests to link the offense / defense substitutions, and that it really does not work well that way. However, since they cannot be linked, would it be possible to make an offensive sub (ie update the batting lineup) for any team at any time, without having to go to the lineup page?
During a game its difficult to quickly tap misc->show starting lineup->tap visitor->tap player #1->tap batting "no"->done->tap player #2->tap batting "yes"->done->drag to appropriate spot in order->done.
Another way to work around this, without linking the offensive and defensive subs would be to let us make an offensive sub by clicking the lineup. Right now when you tap a player in the lineup it brings up their player card, to me it seems more intuitive to tap a player and make a substitution. Perhaps double tap brings up the player card? Regardless, on the field with bright sun makes it difficult at time to navigate, so it would be really helpful to stay within the scoring screen as much as possible to minimize clicks and "mis-taps" that contribute to me falling behind.
The frustrating part about how the software currently works is offensive and defensive subs are two separate mechanisms on two separate screens to take place. These extra taps, and separate screens contribute to falling behind, and make the software more difficult to teach part time users. Having all the substitutions handled on the scoring screen in a consistent interface would go a long way toward making the software easier to learn and teach.

Re: Injured Player
FTM has made improvements in the substitution steps since its original release, and continues to take user feedback. one thing i think they have considered is an option setting if you want to force paired subs or prompt for it. but i do not know if high on their list..
that said, I think you may be missing a step in the difference between starting line up and substitution.
when scoring and a "different" name comes up to bat, (or appears on base or in the field). the step is tap the icon (batter, runner, or fielder) and make the sub on the next screen.. (iscore opens to correct offense or defense screen based on what icon you tapped). this is how you make a substitution, (which is different than a line up change, misc > show starting line up).
If you miss the substitution real time, you can go back after the fact and make any substitution in pitch by pitch
in bat all leagues, where you just skip a batter who may leave or get injured, you would not have the offense sub screen enabled b/c every one already batting. so instead of subbing him in, you would use misc skip batter> no out each time he comes to the plate. (perhaps an option to say, do this for rest of game would help, but it sounds like you do not have bat all leagues as you are talking about managed subs. )
hope this helps, feel free to post back for more questions or clarifications

Re: Injured Player
I score for two teams - one is a bat all another we typically sub.
I did forget about correcting the substitution in the pitch by pitch after the fact. I've done that in the past.
I do know about tapping the batter icon to make the substitution, though I routinely forget to do this in realtime. During tournaments when we are using subs the other coach or my coach will say #23 for #13 at the beginning of the inning when we take the field. Its easy to tap the position and make the change at that time, but its much more difficult for me to remember to tap his icon when he's actually hitting.
It would be much easier to tap the spot in the line on the scoring screen to make both changes at the same time - then I don't have to remember anything, nor do I have to leave the scoring screen and potentially fall behind.

Re: Injured Player
in non bat all leagues, when you make a defensive sub, the toggle for offense is on the same page, and you can do both at once if you are confident that is the intent of the coach. (paired change)
Iscore developers took a" score it as you see it approach", which lets score keeper not have to 'guess' what is the intent of the coach for when switch comes to bat (double switch is the classic conundrum, .. less problematic but potentially confusing is DP/ flex players in softball and fielder/DH pair in high school ). The downside of course is the scorer has to pay attention to who is batting every time of course.
that said, i am pretty sure on FTM list is some ideas on how to tweek this for future versions, just not sure where it ranks on teh priority list (optionally of course, for those with paired subs).

Re: Injured Player
Thanks, I think I missed the offense toggle on the sub screen. That is exactly what I am looking for.
Re: Injured Player
toggle is top center. It is inactive if Bat all. only active if you are NOT bat all.
Re: Injured Player
It looks like this thread is a bit old but I still have a similar problem. Tonight while scoring a youth game, a player needed to leave the game. It is hard to remember to 'Skip' the player each time they were scheduled to come to the plate. Is there a way to make it so they are not included in the rest of the lineup without jeopardizing any plate appearances they did have? It would be nice if when you mark a batter as skipped, it not only asks if it is considered an Out or not, but also if it is for the rest of the game.
Can you click on the lineup and remove them without loosing where they had already played or what they did when batting?
Can you click to see the lineup and say they are not batting without loosing any historical game data for them?
Can you click on them when it is there turn to bat and change them to "Not Batting" without loosing any historical game data?

Re: Injured Player
You have to Skip the player each time they come to the plate in order for the scoring to be correct.
We have the request to make the skip permanent on our enhancement list from another thread.

Re: Injured Player
Any changes you make to the starting lineup will be effective at the START of the game. So you do not want to remove them from the lineup or change them to NO batting as this will affect all at-bats. As FTM said, the correct way it to skip the batter when it is their turn at-bat if there are no eligible substitutions.stephen wrote:

Re: Injured Player
Thanks for the clarification. I will NOT make any changes to a lineup or change them to NOT be a batter after the game has started. Unfortunately, the 'SKIP' option must be remembered EVERY time they come up to the plate. This puts undo effort on the part of the score keeper. If it is missed just once, the who thing becomes a nightmare. There really needs to be a 'Scratch Player' option for those that are hurt when scoring for a team that bats all 12 players and substitution is only for defensive purposes.
