Recommendations for broadcaster use

Post by jjsharon » Sat Mar 30, 2013 8:40 pm

Hi,
I love using iScore. Used it the first time this weekend for doing NCAA softball. However, I have a large number of recommendations to help us broadcasters.

PS - I use a Kindle Fire.

- First, why is NCAA Softball not part of a stat package we can discover, or buy with MLB and NCAA Baseball?
- I wish we had the option to replace the pitch location area on the scoring screen (which serves no use for broadcasters) with an area that shows the match ups between pitcher and batter. For example, you could show the hitter's updated game stats with more details (hits/ABs, RBIs, runs scored, etc.), as well as the pitcher's in-game numbers (IP, R, ER, BB, K, pitches). You could also add updated season stats to these areas so we can provide all of that from right there on the screen.
- When I tap a player on the field, I wish it brought up a pop-up with a player card showing season stats and situational stats based on the current situation (BA with bases loaded or with runners in scoring position, etc.) And then have a button that allows us to sub.
- I'd like a pop up to come up at the end of an inking with a quick inking recap, with runs, hits, errors, left on, and maybe the run-scoring plays.
- Ran into an issue with scoring a foul bunt with 2 strikes. That should be a button.

Thanks again for everything. Id love to provide more feedback from a broadcaster prospective as time progresses.

We went ahead and added NCAA Softball for those with the MLB Subscription.

Thank you for the suggestions for broadcasters - we will keep them on our enhancement list.

For the foul bunt with two strikes, it's just a strike out swinging. You can use a comment to denote that it was a bunt foul. On iOS devices, it gives the bunt foul option when you enter the third strike, but the reality is it is nothing more than a comment on the swinging strikeout statistically.

On the Fire, if you tap the ball/strike label in the upper right, it will change the pitch locations to a ptich by pitch listing - not exactly what you were asking for, but maybe more useful to you than pitch locations if you aren't using those.

Hi,

Thanks for the tips. Certainly the batter's game record can be enhanced on the scoring screen to show RBIs and runs scored. Also, the pitcher's in-game stat totals would be such a huge help. Currently, on the Fire, I see the batting order for the at-bat team in the upper-left quadrant, but the batting team's pitcher also shows up there. I saw the screenshots for the iPad version, and it has the lineups and pitch totals for BOTH teams. I get just one. Boo.

In terms of pitching stats, it really would enhance the product to have the balls/strikes/total pitches count enhanced by adding IP, H, R, ER, BB and K.

In other words, it's a GREAT product, but it's close to perfect. Thank you!

The 7" Kindle does not have enough screen space for both teams at once. You can tap the Home/Visitor labels at the top to see the others. If you get a 10" device, it will show both teams at once (Android or iPad).

We will keep your other suggestions in mind as we continue to enhance iScore. The focus has been on what a scorekeeper's role would be during a game, not a broadcaster's, though we like the idea of broadcasters using it and will keep that in mind as well as we continue to make enhancements.

Sure, I understand. Of course, I think it also may help for the staff to know that a lot of people who score games also double as broadcasters, even at the youth sports level in small communities, thanks to live streaming platforms. I for one do softball and baseball at the college level, and have done it at the high school level. So the more you can do in future releases to help us jacks-of-all-trades, trust me, we appreciate it immensely.

In the interim, I'm now starting to save up for an iPad. ;)
