Positions listed in box scores

Post by BigRed21 » Mon Mar 25, 2013 5:18 pm

Forgive me if this has been asked or brought up before, as I tried a search which resulted in nothing. It would be great if positions could be included in the box scores that come out of the app. I send several documents (box score, pitch by pitch detail, score book & link to game replay) to several media outlets after each game. While all the info can be found in one document or another, I've had requests from some newspapers to try and put positions on the box scores. That way they can quickly see who the pitchers and catchers were, as those are two positions used in the paper's version of a box score.

I absolutely LOVE your product! Keep up the fantastic work!

The pitchers are listed separately in the box scores already. The catchers are not. We can not list the positions for each player as in many youth leagues, players will play a different position every inning, and it would make a mess of the Box Score.

We will add the request to show catchers to our enhancement list. What are the papers looking for with the catcher?

Your guess is as good as mine. :) I have no clue why it is like that, but it's been like that the eight years I've been reporting scores.

The format is usually score by innings, runs, hits, error totals. Then pitchers and what inning they entered, catchers and inning they entered. Then K's & BB's for each pitcher, and finally HRs.

Oh, and I understand about the point for little league. Any chance of making an option of whether or not to include positions, so the option is there for those who understand that formatting may be thrown off?

Would it be possible to put their initial positions in the box score? Big Red's suggestion of at least having the option was good as well...

It's always been listed as the battery in papers.... Its the combined effectiveness of the pitcher/catcher since some pitchers pitch better with certain catchers. The phrase goes back to the 1860's.

We just checked box scores on several sites (USA Today, ESPN, MLB.com, Sports Illustrated), and none of them show anything special for the catchers. They do show the positions of the players (including catchers) next to the player names, but catchers do not get any special treatment --- only pitchers which we do on our box scores as well.

We have added the suggestion of making positions an option on the box score to our enhancement list.
