Pictures and video

Post by Greenwood » Fri Aug 28, 2009 8:13 pm

Now with the video abilities in the new iPhone and looks like a camera coming to the iPod touch I was wondering if you could use these features in the application. Maybe having and link to add photos to plays when emailed after the game. Or a button to shoot video of a play and add a link on the game cast. I just thought it would be a fun feature to add to the play by play after the game or the game cast online.

We are definitely adding pictures. We already have an infrastructure built for pictures being stored per user (flip side of the baseball cards are reserved for that). We are also going to make the pictures available in the iScorecast in a future release --- you will be able to take a picture while scoring the game, and it will be uploaded to the iScorecast server and viewable by the people watching.

The pictures per player will be supported immediately when we release the web portal features (though it requires an upload through the web to be viewable on the phone). Actually using the camera on the device for automatic assigning of pictures will be in a future version.

Video is definitely a goal as well, but there are technical hurdles with bandwidth, etc to overcome with video. For example, Apple would not approve Sling Media for the iPhone for use over the 3G network (rumor is it was AT&T that did not allow it), and we are trying to be as careful as possible to not introduce features that can cause delays in approval. (Didn't seem to help with 2.0 as that took 6 weeks, but we do our best to keep our updates well within Apple's guidelines for smooth approvals.)

Thank you.

I'll add my vote for being able to save pictures. I use my iScore to score MLB games I'm listening to on the radio and I love the baseball card feature which downloads the player's photo to a "baseball card" but I'm not always near a WiFi during the summer. It would be great to be able to save the player's photos when I am near WiFi to look at when I'm not.

You've made a great app though. Thanks.
