iScore Viewing App

Post by RockRocks787 » Wed Jul 04, 2012 7:57 am

I have recommended an iScoreCast app in the past, but this time I'll explain exactly what I'm requesting and why I'm requesting it.

When it comes to smartphones, it seems that most people live off of apps. I'll use Youtube as an example. On any smartphone, you can easilly go to youtube.com and access anything available on youtube, yet most people just have to use the mobile app instead. I think that same thing could go with iScore. Most of the parents on our team know about iScoreCast, but probably have no idea how to access it on anything other than their desktop or laptop. With the data plans available these days, being out of a wifi area is not as much of an issue as it once was (I think that was one of the arguments that someone used the last time i requested a mobile app). I keep stats for a travel team, and in over 30 tournaments we've been in over the last 2 years, the scoreboards were on in just 1 of those tournaments, and I think that parents would enjoy following the game with their phone instead of having to come to the dugout just to ask us what the score is. I think that an iScoreCast app would be a good idea for those reasons.

I would also like to see some sort of coach's app. During one of our tournaments we hung a Kindle Fire in the dugout and displayed iScoreCast during the game. While the players did enjoy it, we weren't able to get much use out of it. We couldn't see their current hit locations or pitch locations. We also couldn't see the cumulative stats, which I know is available on iScoreCast but I choose to hide those so other teams don't come across our stats. I do print out stats for teams we've previously played, but once the game starts, the stats instantly become out of date. I was thinking that maybe there could be two versions of iScoreCast: a basic version that parents or anyone else who wants to follow the games can view, and a password-protected premium version that displays more information but can only be viewed by people with the password.

Well those are my thoughts. I'm not trying to sound like a whiner. Let me know what you think.

Thank you for the suggestions... they are good ideas. We just have to prioritize the things on our list. We have a limited number of people working on our apps, and we can either be creating an app version of iScorecast, or adding new features to iScore. Since we have an iScorecast that actually does work, we have been focusing our efforts on new functionality.

We do intend to continue creating new functionality and new apps, and an iScorecast app IS something that is on our roadmap, it is just a matter of prioritizing.

Agree with both ideas...Think an app does make it (at least seem) easier for people to get into the scorecast quickly. Also, the interface can be made to fit well onto the device its intended for.

I think I also previously suggested a coach's version app. The problem with it being, its probably a rules violation in most leagues, though I cant imagine it being enforced in the lower travel leagues. The idea was to be able to show the next several batters coming up and what they have done (so the coaches can quit asking me "what did this guy do last time?").

Maybe its the same app, with a fan view and coaches view depending on what you want to see. Coaches view could be password protected and open up statistical information.

anyway, count me as +1 for both, even if its a ways down the road...

All but 1 Legion team in our state has gone to the Iscore. Love it. However, it is nearly unanimous from parents that they would like an app to be able to view the games too. It is great to watch the games on a computer. OK on an Ipad, and difficult on a phone. As a lot of people are away from their computer during the game, an app that they could watch on an ipad or phone would be awesome. I believe most people would pay for the app if that is the way you wanted to go.

That said, this is a GREAT product. A viewing app would make it even better.

On a phone device, your users can use the "http://iscorecast.com/html" URL to get a viewer that works better on the smaller screen.

a couple years back a forum community member made an app like what you described and posted it on the App store ( "PlayByPlay" ) but it no longer is supported and does not work with current iOS. "http://iscorecast.com/html" URL works well on small screens
