how to display field position numbers

Post by frubarth » Thu May 10, 2012 12:27 pm

How can I display the field position numbers such as 4 for 2nd, 3 for 1st, etc while scoring?

We do not have a way to do that. Why is it that you would want to display the positions numbers while scoring?

It's a way of communicating.

Often we speak in field numbers on 'what happened' type plays, as example sometimes we say what happened and the answer is "grounded out, five-three" or even shorter "five-three", opposed to he grounded out to third (which implies he hit a ground ball to third who threw it to first for the out) so it is just more compact information to make it easier to communicate.

As I think of it, sometimes we tend to identify where a opposing batter hits in this manner too... 'Where did he go last time...six', but in the same way we sometimes say he hit to short (which is also an abbreviation for short-stop)...so it is just another way of communicating. But, a nice compact way.

For quick reference, the field numbers are on most written scorecards, a graphic in the lower corner for instance.

In iScore, a nice real-estate saving place might be grayed out field numbers on the playing field diamond (I don't have my iPad with me, and can't recall the name of the main game page with the scoring diamond), or a small graphic on the page somewhere.

What do you think, a good idea...I hope so I certainly would like it and think others would too.

Thank You.

...but how does that add value to using iscore?

It isnt necessary to know this to use the app, but if you are scoring games, you likely know these already anyway...

It just does. The same way as every other piece of information and metric improves the experience.

But I wasn't implying the app didn't work or it was unusable without it, I was suggesting it be enhanced.

Now with respect to your suggestion maybe we can have it toggled by a configuration setting, something like show field position ON | OFF, in that way scorekeepers who didn't like it would have a way to shut it off, and those who liked it could have it on.

We will add the suggestion to our enhancement list for future consideration. Thank you.
