GameName in Scorecard PDF

Post by OhioTex » Sat Apr 17, 2010 10:22 am

Not sure if this has been asked before, if so a long time ago..

Can the device insert more specific "game name info" into the generic email attachement file names for scorecard.pdf, stats.xls, teamstats.xls.

example:
scorecard for 4.16.10 Eastside_Thunder_at_Northern_Flames.pdf
stats for 4.16.10 Eastside_Thunder_at_Northern_Flames.xls
teamstats for 4.16.10 Eastside_Thunder.xls

We would not want to change the name of the files themselves. We have customers that expect the attachments to be a certain name so they can be auto-processed by scripts. The email they are sent in has the name of the game however, so you should always be able to see from the context of the email which game it is for. You can also do a Save-As from the email and save it with any name you like to your local hard drive.

got it, do not want to mess up folks with auto scripts. Just was tiered of doing save as and renaming each time, but not tiered enough to consider it a higer priority than others.

I'm finding myself very annoyed by the generic names myself. Now that I have a full season of games, players, stats, etc - I've been emailing like crazy. It's pretty cumbersome to rename every mail attachment that I get. I've got a download folder filled with what appear to be identical files...

I understand the need for people with automated scripts, but it seem the majority of folks are emailing and manually downloading. Perhaps having the filename format be a flag / setting somewhere - "Use Generic Filenames - yes/no"

Just a thought....

What if you could attach a note to the e-mail. This note could be anything, game date opponent, won gold, etc. This would be the same as an ordinary email where you can attach a file to your e-mail

My problem is not the email, its when I am saving the file. I have to rename when downloading each file otherwise I end up overwriting the prior file or getting a bunch of file names with (1)..(2)..(xx) appended on the names. So it either gets very confusing or time consuming when I go to my hard drive to manage those files at a later time.

If FTM cannot add a user preference for the file names how about standard naming conventions: stats-<teamname>-<date>.csv or player-<name>-<team>.pdf

people using automation would obviously be effected, but its pretty trivial to use a regular express to get the file name as long as they have a consistent structure (whatever that structure may be).

When saving the attachments, just use Save As and you can use whatever naming convention you like. Or save to a folder that is the name of the game and you can store all game related info in that folder.

I know I can name it myself - that is what I do. It's just a time consuming cumbersome process when you are saving 50 player cards from 50 emails a weekend. It would be easier if the file names had some detail.
