Slowpitch Softball Requests

Post by JLB_4 » Tue Aug 23, 2011 1:35 pm

I keep the book for my huband's tournament softball team (they play NSA) as well as his league teams. I started using the iScore ap on my iPad this year and love the interactive online gamecast as well as the Twitter options. For guys on the tournament team who might be missing a game or tournament, they love having the option to "watch" the games online. I'm not sure if these suggestions have been made yet, but things I have come across that might be helpful:

-Somewhere to easily keep track of home runs for both teams throughout the game. For NSA "D" softball, the first homerun that is hit counts, the 2nd one that the team hits is an out. Where the problem comes in is if the 3rd homerun is hit, you give the other team 1 run. If a 4th homerun is hit you give the team 2 runs, etc. Which is also known as the progressive homerun rule. I have not figured out a way to score this or an easy way to keep track within the Scoring Screen of how many HRs each team has hit. Normally I keep a scrap sheet of paper off to the side to keep track.

-The other issue is defensively. Normally softball has 10 player playing defense with 4 outfielders. Which is the only option in the ap. There are times where we have only 3 outfielders and add a 5th infielder. The ap doesn't give an option to switch to this type of defense. Which makes it tricky to score plays against this type of defense.

-Run limit. Adding an option to automatically end a game (ie if the score is greater than 15 runs after 5 innings, or 10 runs after 6 innings) would be great. I know there is a workaround where you can just end the game, but it would be nice if you could load the option into the ap so it does it for you.

-Lastly, if a batter has 2 strikes and hits a foul ball, we normally don't score that as a strikeout but a foul-out. An addtional option for a Out-Foul Out would be nice.

Just a few things I would like to see added after using the ap for several weeks so far this season. Keep up the good work. I look forward to future updates.

Thank you for the suggestions.

This is the first time we have heard of home runs giving runs to the other team. We have heard of some leagues starting to give outs for home runs after 5 home runs for example, but never having runs be given to the other team.

For the "10th player", the actual location of the player on the field should not be effecting the stats in any way. So if you just choose the 10th fielder as the player on the infield plays, things should work just fine statistically.

The Run Limit is likely something we will not be implementing as there are just too many variations from league to league. We have Misc -> End Innings where you can end an inning when a run limit is hit, or Misc -> End Game as you noted if the game is ending due to a run limit.

The 2 strikes, and hitting a foul ball as an out is very similar to a caught foul tip in baseball. Statistically we have always tracked it as a strikeout. Do you have a reference showing that it is not a strikeout? Or is this more of a preference you guys have adopted?

Thank you for the quick response yesterday. The 2 strikes and hitting a foul ball not counting as a strikeout is more of a preference we have adopted. That is an easy workaround where I can just score it as a flyout instead.

The biggest issue that we have is the progressive homerun rule that we play. Do you have any suggestions on how to score this during a game?
