Poll - Which sport should be next?

Post by FTMSupport » Sat May 16, 2009 4:02 am

We are trying to plan for upcoming products. We would like to get the iScore Community's help in determining that direction.

Which sport would you like to see us develop next?

If you choose other, please post which you would like to see.

I would love to see Hockey next.

Even if it was something relatively basic, I think it would be extrememly well-received.

Player stats could include: Goals, Assists, Points, Penalties in Minutes, and Plus/Minus.

Goaltending stats could have: Minutes, Shots Against, Saves, Goals Against Average, Save Percentage.

More sophistication could be added later, but an app that addresses these stats in the near future would be awesome. Lots of my players' parents have IPhones and I know they'd love it!

Thanks!

Football x 1,000! Football is the number one sport in America. It is played at every level and once game-cast is up and going it will be a huge feature for high school teams. It would become almost required software for a high school statistician.

Soccer is so massively popular, even a simple scorekeeping program would be gobbled up.

I would love to see an application similar to this for Golf. It could be fairly easy to program. It could track:
Handicap
Greens in regulation
Fairways hit
Putts
Sand saves..
etc....

I would envision entering a course as you play it, or load your home course in the app. Each hole you could enter yardage, par, and handicap for the hole.

The golf arena is quite saturated right now... there are several golf scorecards that are actually quite nice and detailed... just to point you to a few:

Although I chose baseball only, I have two baseball/softball ideas.

1) Rec (CoEd) Softball. Settings to start the batter with a 1-1 count, no courtesy fouls, 2nd base awarded on 4 straight balls can be worked around, but would be nice to have handled automatically. Batting lineups are not fixed in our league. The league requires boy-girl-boy-girl-… and as long as there are 4 girls, there’s no automatic out. If there is a different number of boys and girls then the lineup changes continuously. There is essentially a boy lineup and a girl lineup and they bat boy, girl with the next batter in the gender specific lineup coming up when appropriate. So if there are 6 guys and 4 girls then it’s (B1, G1, B2, G2, B3, G3, B4, G4, B5, G1, B6, G2, B1, G3, …) And there’s an automatic out if there’s not 4 girls like 6 buys, 3 girls (B1, G1, B2, G2, B3, G3, B4, out, B5, G1, B6, G2, …) And cannot play with less than 3 girls. I suppose rec ball is tough since there’s a lot of local variation in rules, but rec ball could be a separate vertical offering.
2) A baseball lineup generator. A separate app that is purchased separately and integrates with iScores’ database. And set a bunch of generation rules and options. Innings per game, players’ minimum innings in infield per game (we require each player to have played in the infield 2 times before 5.5 innings in a 6 inning game), players’ minimum average infield positioning (if games often end early and a player does not actually get his scheduled infield opportunity then this should be compensated for). Every player sits out one inning before a player sits out two innings. Set players ability at a position, players interest in playing/learning a position, pitch count limits and rest requirements (both days of rest and games of rest), play to win (tournament mode) vs. play to develop players (regular season mode). Reset options, like games of rest may be reset after regular season play, but days of rest are not. Tournament play might have different pitch limits and rest requirements than regular season play. Then choose two teams from the iScore DB and have it go to work. Even go so far as to enter the season schedule and fields and have it be really tactical in the later games in the season, saving pitchers for later surfaces or teams they’re effective and such. Taking in to account pitcher effectiveness against the opposing team, pitcher’s field specific stats (we have synthetic mounds that some pitchers don’t do well on and earth mounds that all pitchers seem to do well on). Batting order based on actual batting averages and slugging percentages. How about mid game recommendations for player substitutions? There are managers that I know that earn good money at their day jobs and spend hours coming up with a lineup, then get to the game to find that Freddie broke his ankle playing soccer and have to do it again minutes before the game. A good lineup/position generator could command good money as an upsell item.

Thank you for the suggestions... we are always looking for ways to add additional offerings, and these sound like things that may be useful for many people.

U know, the more i come to think about it, i think u could only score for more slower paced sports...because after all, baseball and softball are hard enough sometimes for a lot of errors on the play or something like that. I think the only ones u could do would be golf, football, soccer maybe. hockey and basketball are pretty fast paced games, and it would be hard to keep up with. Just a thought.
