Undo/Redo One Inning or Half-Inning at a Time

Post by Hasbro35 » Tue Apr 26, 2011 9:45 pm

I understand the difficulty of allowing runs and pitches to be added in Pitch by Pitch, but one pain point I find is having to re-score a whole game just to fix a small error in, let's say, the first inning. What would be great is if you could just re-score one inning and keep the others. You wouldn't necessarily do this in Pitch-by-Pitch, but instead would allow the user to choose a "Re-score" menu item and pick the inning they want to re-score. Since innings do not tend to be dependent on each other it shouldn't cause any issues downstream in the scoring app. On second thought you might be able to just re-score a half an inning. Seach each half inning is its own entity when it comes to downstream effects. Once you have this feature I think iScore would be near perfect for scoring a game, because redoing an inning or half-inning is no big deal if you make a mistake. Re-scoring a whole game to fix a small error is a pain in the butt.

Actually rescoring a half inning could have an impact if you do not "end" on the same batter you ended on the first time through (now suddenly the wrong player is at bat in the next inning) or if you added or removed runs that make it so the game should go more innings or should have ended.

We have been trying to add additional editing capabilities (for example, we added the ability to change multi-base hits to hit + error with the most recent release). What is something you have been trying to edit that you are unable to do? If you give specific examples, we may be able to address them in future releases.

Some of the things I am trying to add are missed pitches, which I understand needs a re-score. Also, today I missed having a kid go from third base to home "on the throw". Since this was an added run I had to go all they way back to add it. I know I could just edit the batting stats, but then the boxscore is off. That bugs me. Anyway, I still think you could allow users to re-edit a half inning, because just like when you update the line-up and that impacts which batter is scored you could do the same downstream; i.e. just update all the downstream at bats with the proper batting order. That would be a much better solution than having to rescore a whole game off the scorecard just to add a pitch or to just to add a run. I think the happy medium of allowing half-innings to be edited would solve a lot of frustrations for scorers and would help in keeping the box score and other stats pristine.

Creative thinking.interesting idea/ approach..

I suspect FTM has a more complete and ranked list of edit requests, but
The things I hear people want to edit now are in line with hasbro 35

Post fact edit ..
Add/delete/change number of pitches
Advance a runner to another base
advance runner to home, and have the run count and go onto scoreboard
Add/remove batter

Plus
Add/edit refine pitch location,type, speed

While scoring this past weekend, I had a player that I scored an extra ball to which caused iScore to walk him, as it should have my mistake lol. Bright day so I didnt notice it happen due to glare on my ipad. The next pitch was grounded out ending the inning. Which I was recording on the 8th batter when in fact it was still our 7th. I was not aware of the mistake until the next inning when our 8th batter came up to the plate but I had number 9 on my scoresheet. Luckily this player grounded out also and I just ended the inning early with 2 outs. So in effect my error didnt have any effect on the scoring other than a walk scored for an out. But other than undoing a whole half inning to get back and then rescoring the opposing teams half inning at bat I was stuck. I know it might be messy but being able to skip back a half inning to fix an error while keeping the opposing teams at bat intact would have been perfect. Even if it is just the ability to fix the previous at bat without having to undo so much to get back there when the error is caught after changing sides.

I would like to also request the enhancement to allow an edit to change the 'advance a runner to another base'. In our last game Batter 3 was on second when batter 4 hit a single. I mistakenly only advanced batter 3 to third. Batter 5 hit into the third out. I did not notice the error until I saw the score was off in the bottom of the inning. I thought it would be a simple change to go into the pitch by pitch and change the advance of the runner, but discovered it was greyed out. Since this affects the score and RBI's it becomes a very important play to be corrected - without having to undo and start over at the point of the error.

cgrote, you have the option of manually adjusting the stats in lieu of editing play by play.

The option to at least edit the "previous" inning before moving onto the next inning would be really helpful. When things start going funky I try to make a note so I can correct it later but a lot of the time it doesn't really get fixed later or I can't understand what my note means by the time I can correct it. In my (limited) experience, I usually notice funky stuff within a few batters so it wouldn't affect the entire game but undoing it all and trying to remember what needs to be redone or bugging the official paper scorekeeper just doesn't work.

I had a similar issue as Hotcorner6...while I was scoring a game this past weekend one of our fans asked to try it out. Unfortunately while I was showing them how to enter the activity, I didn't notice one of the players on the opposing team was incorrectly listed as out of the lineup and the batting order got completely screwed up. It wasn't until they were back up to bat again that I realized the mistake and even though I desperately tried to undo everything, correct the batting order and then redo 8+ batters, there were too many things to redo to get back to live scoring before we got back up to bat again. I ended up abandonning the entire game after just the first inning and was very bummed out. If I could have just skipped back and corrected the opposing team's last at bat, all would have been fine.
