I love your software and I’m so hooked on it that I now can’t live without it. I think there are some improvements that can be made and maybe I'm saying the same thing that someone else has already requested. But here we go..
We play tournaments... Lots of Tournaments. We have a Fall Season and a Spring Season. I have to use the League definition for every tournament, because there appears to be no other way to do it and there is no way to define a season.
I'd like to be able to look at a girl's performance by game, by tournament, by season, by all games played. The piece that seems to be missing is the ability to define a season. Maybe this is an enhancement that is the works?
Also, my daughter plays HS ball, so I will keep stats for the HS team. I would think that the definition of League would be more towards the idea of a League. For example. If I had the ability to do the following I think it would be a very powerful tool.
1) Define a true league (i.e. Tournament Ball, High School, Rec. League)
2) Define a Tournament Name (i.e. ASA Qualifier in Dallas TX, ASA Nationals in Oklahoma City, etc..)
3) Define a season (Spring, Summer, Fall)
4) Be able to sort all of the information that is available by selecting any of the items above from a drop down list. Or look at All stats.
I appreciate your consideration of these improvements.

Re: leagues vs. tournaments vs. season Reporting
You can put games into multiple "leagues." So cal one league "2010 Season", and put all the games in that. Then have a "league" for each tournament, and make sure those games are in both the 2010 league and the tournament league. Then there's the "All" league that you can put every game from every season into. Then turn on the seasons you want to see the stats for.
Hopefully, OhioTex will jump in here, as he explains it better than I do. But the key thing to remember is a game can be in multiple "leagues."

Re: leagues vs. tournaments vs. season Reporting
There are a few posts on the forum that give details for how to do this, but what you are trying to accomplish can be done with the software already. The key is to remember that a single game can be assigned to more than one League at a time. With that in mind, a season is just another League in the software. Each game I score goes into at least 4 leagues; Tournament (e.g. Turkey Day Classic), Season (e.g. Fall 2010), Year (e.g. 2011 Season), and game type (e.g. Pool Play). I also have leagues for scrimmages and actual league games. You would probably want a HS league. Once the games are assigned, you can see the stats on the device filtered by league by making that league active and making sure all other leagues are inactive.
If you've purchased a team website or a spotlight website for an individual player, then you can filter by league name with the drop down and get just the stats you want.

Petro guy and jbeckman are spot on... Leagues can handle your situation today.
Here is a link to a thread which will elaborate on Learning how to use leagues.

Once you "get" leagues think you will be 100% covered.

Re: leagues vs. tournaments vs. season Reporting
Thanks guys for your help. I didn't even think to convolute the use of leagues that way to get what I needed. At least there is a way to do it and I appreciate your feedback.
However, I still think that software changes can be made to make it easier. By this time next year, I will have hundreds of entries in my leagues and it will be a nightmare to find what I want based on the way that it currently works.
I personally would like to see the software evolve to cover every possible scenario, because I can tell you; Since I started using the software and other people have seen what I've been doing, I know there have been at least a dozen people who bought the software and are now using it. That is in just a couple of months. Also, I would pay substantially more for this software than 9.99 if it had a few more capabilities and flexibilities, heck I just paid 59.99 for the latest Call Of Duty Game. Also, I predict that IPADS and software like this will be used more by Rec Leagues, Travel Teams, College Coaches and High School Coaches, because it is just too easy to do. Our High School coach is already way to excited that I will be collecting the stats and posting to a website.
Thanks again for the help.

Understood..
The use of assigning games to different types of "groupings" (aka leagues) sounds more convaluted in text description here then it is in practice.
The flat way leagues are designed today, with a game as the core and ability to assign to multiple leagues has proven to be very flexible and powerful to accomadate almost everyones unique grouping needs. a challange with hard codeing any hirearchy of "groups" is the variety of ways and names used out there.. some do seasons, some tournaments, some class, some use divisions, some conferences, etc etc.. Plus some have multiple teams they track and the hierarchy is different. (aka mlb one way, rec ball one way, travel ball another, high school another, baseball vs softball differences etc). Plus we have forum members in other countries with their own quirks and conventions. The less hard coded structure to date date has been very accomadating to the multiple needs out there with some care and attention to league nameing and organizational admin attention.
That said, the idea of league hierarchy and listings getting long and un weildy has come up just as you have noticed.. Here is one related thread with some tips and tricks on how you can manage / workaround long lists. Not perhaps ideal but very functional

Again welcome to the product and the forum..enjoy and please keep contributing ideas and tips as you come across them..
I dare say many of us in the community have similar situatuions to you and have scored
