Sac Bunt with Fielder's Choice (everyone is Safe)

Post by runningwolful » Wed May 21, 2014 5:41 am

This happened last night in our 3rd round game of the NCHSAA 4A playoffs, with the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 7th (last) inning:

- Able leads off and is Hit by Pitch
- Baker lays down a sacrifice bunt that goes to the left of the pitcher, is fielded cleanly by 4, who chooses to throw to 6 at 2nd base in an unsuccessful attempt (no error) to force out Able.
- It was scorer's judgment that 4 could have easily put out Baker at 1st base with ordinary effort.

I think the correct scoring should be a Sac Bunt for Baker (not counted as an AB), with a Fielder's Choice. The problem is that I don't see a way to record that result in iScore. Here is the sequence I entered for Baker's plate appearance:

- Touch In Play
- Touch Sacrifice Bunt (have to use this instead of Fielder's Choice, or it would count as an AB for Baker)
- Touch ball location
- Touch Next
- What happened to Able that was on 1st base? Touch Safe, then touch Second (But, there is no Fielder's Choice option to describe how Able was safe at 2nd; should I touch Advanced by Batter, or touch On the Throw, or something else?)
- What happened to the batter, Baker? Touch Held Up

(By the way, just to complete the story, the next batter Charlie executed another perfect Sac Bunt to move Able to 3rd and Baker to 2nd. Davis was then intentionally walked to load the bases with one out. Edward then stroked a walk off base hit to RF to bring home the winning run and send us to the NCHSAA 4A East Region Semifinals.)

I think "In Play -> Sac Bunt", will work correctly for this.

Should give batter credit for Sac with no AB and no Hit.

Thanks for the quick response. That will take care of the batter, such that he is not credited with a hit, but also not charged with an AB because of the Sac Bunt. Do you think it matters how I enter the advance of Able to 2nd base? Advanced by Batter seems more accurate than On the Throw. Agree?

Advanced by batter is what I would do. I think it is statistically irrelevant, though.
