Anyone on here using the IPOD Touch and doing live scoring?
I was hoping to get internet at the ballfield, but the cable company doesn't have any lines nearby and won't run them for us......
I was hoping to find an alternative....and no I don't have AT&T or I would have gotten the Iphone... ;o)
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, I didn't see a general discussion section....hint..hint...hehe

Google "mifi"
It is basically a wireless internet connection using a standalone cellular modem. Supports up to 5 connections.
That is the only option I can think of.
Good luck!

Re: IPOD Touch and Wi-Fi
We have many people using an iPod Touch to score games. It will work fine completely disconnected. The only thing that requires an interenet connection is if you want to use the "iScorecast" functionality which sends each play as it happens out to the internet for others to view. If you do not have some kind of internet access, you can still send an iScorecast out after you have scored the game and gone back to an internet enabled location --- just go to the Game Detail screen and use the "Synchronize iScorecast" option, and the entire game will be sent up to the server for viewing.

Thanks Admin,
I was able to figure that out...my main reason for purchasing the Itouch and Iscore is for live updates. I scored games last season using a product that cost 10 times this, with no online updates and used Twitter to inform our fans of game updates.
I am so excited to get this working......this program rocks!!!
I have a parent who has volunteered her laptop with a Cell Card, so I am looking at ways to make that work for me.....without having to spend too much more money.....

Re: IPOD Touch and Wi-Fi
going to go techie on you for a minute.
(sports friends, fellow coaches, and my players .. please look away)...
the poster who suggested MiFi is dead on. sprint, and verizon both offer versions of this neat little gadget, a very slick solution with itouch.. it is battery powered and creates a personal wifi bubble using cell service to internet. . but it costs $$$$, more than a few bucks a month. (check your area providers/cost)
you mentioned having volunteer access to a laptop and cell card , .. with a traditional cellular modem, you can turn on a Mac OS X or Windows feature called Internet Sharing, which rebroadcasts the signal via Wi-Fi, just like the MiFi. i have not done that personally, but should work for you with no more investment than time assuming your friends laptop charge holds and is willing to donate the access.
We really are pushing the investment on a 10$ app.
