official scoring when 3B falls down after fielding ball
official scoring when 3B falls down after fielding ball
Official scoring question: To start an inning, a batter hits a routine ground ball to third base. After fielding the ball cleanly, the third-basemen falls down (with his spike caught in the turf), and he never makes a throw. Does the play get scored as a hit, or does the “ordinary effort” guideline (i.e., would the batter-runner have been out with ordinary effort) apply so that the play is an error? Thanks.

Routine ground ball and a misplay... sounds like an error.

The play had been scored as a hit; I'll forward the posting and see if the scorer reconsiders.
Thanks.
Thanks.
