How is ERA9 (7 for softball) calculated?

ERA9 = (Earned Runs) * 9 / (Innings Pitched)
ERA = (Earned Runs) * (Avg Innings Per Game) / (Innings Pitched)
If you set your Innings for every game to 7, then ERA would be ERA7...
ERA9 is always calculated as a separate statistic so you can do apples to apples comparisons between pitchers that pitch in different length games.

Thanks. So if I'm understanding this right, since a regulation softball game is only 7 innings, the ERA9 really doesn't matter/count.

It gives you a way to compare players playing 7 inning games to players playing 9 inning games.
