'SEQ'

Looking through my team's stats I became curious as to how 'SEQ' is calculated for a batter. I've gathered that the starting lineup is numbered 1 to 9, but what I don't understand is how pinch hitters are scored. For instance, my team brought in a pinch hitter, the first pinch hitter of the game, in the top of the ninth and his SEQ value for that game is apparently 12. Why is this?
Furthermore, as I score a team that usually uses the DH rule, I was confused to see that one of my pitchers SEQ value for the season is 946. He's only batted in one game so I'm not sure why this is. Any ideas?
Thanks.
