Couple of Questions About Recording Errors

Hi All:

My question is how to correctly record an error. For example - I have a runner at First and Second with no outs. The batter hits a ball to the short stop who commits an error. I press "In Play -> Error -> Touch SS Position -> " and this is where I am not sure exactly what to put. It asks What happened to the runner at third. Assume they are safe at third - I am not sure what to select here. Is it advanced by batter or held up. I have been using advanced by batter. OR - should I be pressing the error button and then selecting the person who made the error.

The reason I ask is because iScore seems to be giving RBI's when errors are committed and am wondering if I am choosing the wrong option? However, I don't want (in this example) the SS to be hit with 2 errors for each time I choose error on SS.

I hope this question makes sense and appreciate any help you can give! Thanks!

You are correct that scoring a run with advanced by batter will result in a RBI. As scorekeeper you need to make a judgment call whether the runner would have scored without the error. In your case advancing the runner to third either by error or by batter does not really have any statistical relevance.

Also, when assigning errors, as long as it is during the same sequence of events, iscore will not post multiple errors against the SS. In your example, had you advanced the runners on E6 rather than advanced by batter, it would still only count as one error against SS.

Awesome - that answers my question. So - if I think the runners would have scored regardless - choose advanced by batter. Otherwise, press the error. I guess that makes sense because it is possible a runner advanced on an error committed by another player.

However, it also seems like it could be handy to have a button that just says advanced on error and have it use the initial error - just to save the selecting the same player 3 or 4 times.

Regardless - thanks for answering my question!
