Perhaps I've missed it, but is there a way to get a team's total stats to include the stats of players who have been released, demoted or traded and are no longer on the roster?

The stats available from the Team Manager screen only includes the players that are on the team's roster. You can leave the players on the roster if you would like, and it will show their cumulative stats along with everyone else's.
You can also view any player's stats by going to Player Manager and selecting the player from there and viewing the stats on their player card.

If I leave a player on the roster who has been traded to another team, will each team's roster show only the stats accumulated with that particular team?

Yes.

A final question, are there any clever ways to show that a particular player left on the roster for statistical purposes is actually no longer with the team? Change the colour of the name or something like that?

I haven't seen this "Inactive" feature before. Looking at the online documentation, it seems it is an iOS feature only. Too bad. It's just what I want.

Yeah, I sometimes forget which features arent available on the different platforms. I'm sure FTM will get this in Android at some point soon.
