I was scoring a game the other day when I came across a situation that I didn't know how to handle in iScore.

There were two outs in the inning. The bases were loaded. The batter hit a ground ball to 2nd. The 2nd baseman tagged 2nd base to force the runner who was on first ending the inning. I scored the grounder as U4. The problem was that I wasn't given the opportunity to input that the runner who was on 1st was forced at 2nd. iScore indicated that the U4 resulted in the batter being out. In the scorecard I think iScore should have shown that the runner on 1st was forced at 2nd. I tried to edit the info but couldn't seem to get the play right.

The closest I came was by indicating the batter was safe on a fielder's choice, the runners on 2nd and 3rd held up and the runner on 1st was forced. I pressed the following In Play > Fielder's Choice > Hit Location > Fielded By 2nd Baseman > Runners On 2nd and 3rd Held Up > Runner on 1st Forced Out.

The Summary read that the runner on 2nd and 3rd held up and that the runner who was on first was forced at home. I didn't save the game data. I was able to recreate the play this morning.

I need to know what buttons to push to indicate that U4 resulted in the runner who was on 1st was forced on a FC.

If you enter Out, Ground Out, you are saying the batter is out.

To enter a Fielder's Choice, you would use In Play, Fielders Choice, then select the runner being out at second base.

Did you try it? Make sure there are two outs and the bases loaded.

If you use your second option iScore does what I described above.

We just started a new game. Entered 3 walks (load the bases). Entered 2 strikeouts (so there are two outs).

In Play, Fielder's Choice, tapped location of hit near 2B, Next
(asked who handled the ball) - 2B, Done
(asks what happened to runner on third), Safe, Home, Run Not Scored
(asks what happened to runner on second), Safe, Third, Advanced by Batter (or held up)
(asks what happened to runner on first), Out, Second, Force Out

Okay, I didn't use safe at home, run not scored. That takes care of the problem. I'm not sure that that is technically accurate since the runner is never safe at home, but it gets the job done.

The problem is, you have to move the runners or iscore doesn't know what to do with runner from first. The way you tried to score it, you are telling the app that the runner at 3rd stayed at 3rd, the runner at 2nd stayed at 2nd, but the runner at 1st was forced out. Since you already told it that the runner that started at second was still there it doesnt know where to assign the out. You do need to advance the runners, as they technically are required to advance. Run Not Scored is there for that very reason.

Was he safe at home? I think thats semantics...the point is he wasn't put out at home and he didn't score, which is accurate.

I can live with that as a workaround.

As far as semantics (the meaning of a word) safe means the runner reached a base successfully. They do not in this case. The runner on 2nd and 3rd did not advance. It's inaccurate to indicate that they did. The batter cannot be credited with advancing any runners. The scorecard should not show that those runners advanced. If I was keeping a paper scorecard, I woud not draw lines indicating that those batters advanced.

FWIW, iscore does not draw a line home for the Run Not Scored, either (though, it does show the runner from second advancing to third).

If I override iScore's advance and put the lead runner back at third, held up, runner at 2nd held up, the option to select 2nd base for the runner on first goes away, but you still can select force out. The scorecard looks as it should with runners on 3rd, 2nd, and a force out between 1st & 2nd.
