Is there a way to distinguish IPHR from HR in the stats? I also thought that there used to be a differentiation in the scorebook.

There is no distinction other than in the play by play listings. It is more for "description". Statistically they are both just home runs.

I agree with this in theory, but it seems inconsistent with how you handle bunt basehits. Statistically, a bunt single is just a single, but you capture it in a separate field. I am a little surprised that if you have the ability to score them as one or the other, that you wouldnt calculate them separately and roll them up to a total HR stat.

Not that it bothers me, I would probably just use the total HRs, but I think the OP makes a good point.

One reason it is different than a bunt single is with a bunt single, you have players that are intentionally trying to bunt to get on base, and it is interesting to track that.

You do not have players that are intentionally trying to hit an in the park home run. Nobody is really an "in the park home run expert", whereas you may have someone that is an expert at bunting. Yes, maybe it would show they have speed, but speed is really looked for in stolen bases and bunting.
