On oct 23, I scored my daughters school team. She only pitched for a half an inning and had 2 earned runs. This is what iscore says as well. The game only had 5 innings but normally has six due to a time limit. When I pulled the team stats her era for that game is a 24. I don't see how this is possible. If the era is calculated by innings per game X earned runs / innings pitched it should be 5X2/1=10. Please help me to understand how this truly works and is era calculated differently for baseball than softball?

Its based on outs recorded, so its actually in third innings (you cant pitch half an inning). Also its based on scheduled game length not actual.

iscore handles this correctly. Softball and baseball are the same in this regard.

Rereading this, I think I understand the question better.

So, you are saying she pitched 1 inning (3 outs)? She gave up 2 earned runs? Game was scheduled for 6 innings?

So, in iscore:

ERA should be 6*2/1 = 12
ERA9 should be 9*2/1 = 18

You are saying its 24? We are missing something...as I said, iscore definitely handles this correctly. Maybe you could provide more details.

Is there a way to recalculate everything? When I look at the stats for the team it says her earned runs are 2, however when I pull her up either through team cumulative stats, her player stats, or even the tems pitching stats for that game it is still showing a 24 era for her and showing 9 runs. There were 9 runs scored but only 2were earned and it shows this in the scorebook under the game manager

You can recalculate when viewing stats by tapping the Recalc button on the stats screen in the upper right corner (or pressing the Menu button, then Recalc on Android devices).

Keep in mind that innings pitched for this calculation is base don number of outs, not innings appeared. If the inning ended early due to a run limit or time, and she did not pitch a full 3 outs, then the fraction of an inning is used in the caculation (1/3 if only 1 out made, 2/3 if two).

The .33 is the innings pitched. The 9 is under actual runs scored. And the 2 is under earned runs. Te game is set for 6 innings. So by calculations. It should be 2(ER) X 6 (innings in game) = 12 / 1 (innings pitched). Please help. it looks like it calculated the .33 innings, however, there were no outs when she came in so the inning should be 1. From my understanding the fraction of the inning is only counted if outs were made prior to the pitcher being switched.

Did she make three outs in the inning? Or was end inning used due to mercy rule or time limit? If she only made one out in the inning, she would only be credited with 1/3 of an inning so math would be:

2 x 6 = 12 / .333 = 36.0 ERA for a 6 inning game
