Scoring question: a pitcher starts a game and does pretty well until the beginning of the 5th (last inning). The 7 to 1 lead was quickly reduced to 7 to 6 lead in a rally. Still winning, 7 to 6, bases loaded, 3 balls on batter, the coach brings in the star pitcher to try to reverse course. After a walk then an error on ss, we lose the game and the coach charges the "loss" to the relief pitcher. Is this correct? Rule 10.17 (d) states
(d) A losing pitcher is a pitcher who is responsible for the run that gives the winning team a lead that the winning team does not relinquish.
Question 1: who is reposible for the runner, the pitcher who put him on base or the relief pitcher under which he scored?
Question 2: who gets the loss?

For purposes of ERA calculations the starting pitcher is responsible for the 3 runners on base, and the batter:
14.25.1 A relief pitcher is charged with every run that scores when the batter has reached base while she was pitching. Exception: If a batter reaches base on a fielder’s choice that puts out an inherited runner and the batter subsequently
scores, the run is charged to the previous pitcher, not the relief pitcher.
14.25.2 When a relief pitcher enters the game to pitch to a batter in mid-count and the batter gets on base and scores, charge the first pitcher with the run if the batter has a count of two or three balls and fewer than two strikes, or if the count is full, and in either case, the batter walks. Charge the relief pitcher with any other action of the batter (including a strikeout).

14.29.7.2 A relief pitcher receives the loss if she is the pitcher of record when the opponent goes ahead and stays ahead for the remainder of the game.
Tough situation to be in, but if she gets out it she earns the save.
