Why does the pitching pad speed calculator show two speeds, one of which is in parenthesis? Also, why are the two numbers different sometimes?

One is the actual calculated speed based on the mound distance you have set, and the other is the Major League equivalent.
The Major League equivalent is based on the amount of time it took for the ball to reach home plate, and what a ball would have had to been thrown at from the Major League mound distance for the same timing. You will find that Softball batters actually have less time to react than a major league player would have (i.e. you will see pitches equivalent to like 110 or 120 mph).
