Scoring little league (10U)

Not so much a 'how to score' question, but wondering how everyone scores 10U games.

Do you charge errors to the kids? Do you charge wild pitches/passed balls when a player advances a base or do you give the kids credit for a stolen base?

The people in our league generally don't score any errors and score any steal as a stolen base, regardless of the pitch, but just wondering how others do it?

I score errors and passed balls/wild pitches. I try to go by the book for the most part, however, I will get a little lenient on hits vs errors. It needs to be pretty blatant to score the error (and we still manage to have about 6 per game).

Its a challenge.

I think the key is to find an approach you are comfortable with and try to be as consistent as possible.

If it's an error it's an error.

If the runner went because the catcher missed the ball, then it is passed ball or wild pitch.

Just because they are 10 doesn't mean you ignore the rules. In 3 years if you look at the stats you'll think your kid never got better or if someone scores him correctly you'll think he got a lot worse.

I score errors/passed balls/pick off attempts etc. I agree, if you alter the way you are scoring according to age then it doesn't give you a clear picture of progress - especially since errors are such a huge part of the 10u game.

I agree with the other posters. I score it as the rules say (at least to the best of my ability). The only change I make due to age is part of the rules. Errors are based on plays that can be made using 'ordinary effort'. Ordinary effort is different for a 10U player compared to a 13U which is different compared to an adult. Also, 10U league play might have a different scale of ordinary effort compared to 10U travel ball. That is where your judgement comes in. Like Mark says up thread, just be consistent and you will be in good shape.
