Leaving base path

Girls softball game. Runners at second and third, two outs. Batter slaps the ball to the shortstop, but beats the throw to first. Runner at third has held, but runner at second has run to third. Runner at third then tries for home. First baseman initially runs the ball at the runner to get her to commit and then throws the ball to catcher but runner is then called out for leaving the base path. Was never tagged by catcher.

Initially I scored it as single for batter, what happened to runner on third?, Out at home, tagged out, 6-3-2. But then I went in and edited in pitch by pitch and after what happened to runner on third, out at home, I correctly put Left base path. then it just asked for nearest player or player with ball, I entered 2.

So my question would be who is supposed to get credit for put outs and assists on that play? I haven't bothered to see how it was recorded in stats because it was our girl who was put out. But before I would look I need to know what is supposed to be the correct stats for that play.

As a side note before I edited it: when I looked at play by play on the website. It just had runner out at home, but instead of the courtesy runners name it had reverted back to the name of our catcher who she had replaced. even though the courtesy runners name had been listed correctly when advancing from first to second and second to third.

After I edited the play,,, this is what shows up on play by play: Single, LBPR: { guid=8050b383-d34a-9bd7-f17b-9fc74beca3d1, update_dt=1335916886.0, type=LBPR, bt_act=8:4, ft_act=2, home_at_bat=8, visitor_at_bat=3, visitor_score=6, home_score=0, outs=0, inning=5, top_inning=1, courtesy_runners=, strikes=0, } : Prev=

I have found with iscore that you want to try to be as correct as possible with your first entry because editing later tends to cause more problems than it really solves. But I still think it's a great program with great support.

The putout is given to the defender closest to the play. There are no assists on that play because the ball didn't make the out. Assists are given to players who touch the ball prior to a putout (except the pitcher on strikeouts. Pitcher doesn't get assists for that).

Another example would be Offensive Interference. The putout is credited to the defender closest to the play, and no assists are awarded.

ETA: Everything else looks good. I would call it a single as well.

Thanks Bryan for answering my question on assists and thanks to support for getting the play by play is fixed on both the team website and my phone.

Does anyone have a good online resource for scorekeeping for high school to college age softball?

Do an internet search for
NFCA Home Plate: ATEC: Beyond the Basics of Scoring Fastpitch

You should be able to find a free pdf copy. It is a great resource for scoring.
