iPad overheating

Post by bacolon » Thu Aug 25, 2011 12:51 pm

Does anyone have a suggestion for keeping the iPad from overheating? I live in Florida and I've had the iPad overheat several times. I then have to keep score manually and enter the data onto my iPad after the game. It's very frustrating. If no usable overheating solutions, are there any good "work arounds"?

This topic comes up from time to time. Here is one thread with a few suggestions:

Keeping it in the shade, out of direct sunlight, is the best suggestion. I live in Georgia and scored many tournaments in 95+ heat. Have sworn by this main rule, and have not had the iPad overheat yet.

Wow haven't had that happen and we've been to some 110 degree games. I sometimes click it off between innings. But never really noticed added heat or got the heat warning.

As team mom suggests, it seems to be more related to direct sunlight than the actual heat of the device... we have seen it happen in 80 degree weather in the middle of the day if used in direct sunlight, and not had it happen in 100+ degree weather with a little shading on the device.

My iPad has shut down on 2 different occasions. The problem definitely seems to be direct sunlight. I try to sit under an umbrella and on really hot days I place the iPad inside my cooler between innings. It also helps to take the iPad out of the case. I live in Texas where it can get just a little hot (68 days this summer were 100+).

I have used a frozen gel pack wrapped in a towel. I than put the iPad on that. I have not had any problems with overheating but wanted to be careful based on problems reported by others.
