era vs. era9

In my sons Babe Ruth league the games are 6 innings or 2 hr time limit. ERA calculation by definition is earned runs x 9 divided by innings pitched thus it is the same number in the team stats as era9. My question is this ERA formula applicable in a 6 inning game since that is all he could pitch even in a complete game. Obviously his ERA drops if you calculate it as earned runs x 6 (actual number of innings in his game) divided by innings pitched. I suppose its all relative because all pitchers are calculated the same way in I score.

I may be skewing the figures because I always set the game up as 9 innings in the event we go into extra innings. If I set the game up as only six innings will Iscore change the ERA or will it still be based on the 9 inning formula.

I apologize if this has been previously addressed but I couldnt find the exact answer. Love the app, keep up the good work.

If you schedule the game for 6 innings, then ERA will reflect an ERA based on 6 innings. iScore will automatically go into extra innings if the game is tied after 6 innings. You can go back and modify exist games to be 6 innings and the ERA stat will be updated. Just go to the scoring screen for each of the games, and tap the options button in the bottom right of the scoring screen, and set the Innings to 6.

If you set a game for 6 innings, but you *misc-end game* after 5 due to a time limit, does ERA calculate using 5 or 6?

I think I had some editing to do. Out games almost always end due to time. I usually put a higher number of innings in there so it does not end game prematurely on me. Sounds like it would be better to use the lower number and then change it if it looks like the additional inning will be played.
