Export using 3G fails
Export using 3G fails
I use iScorecast at tournaments and often have to make changes, set up games when I am out at the field due to the nature of tournaments. That said, I can never export a new game / database, so that it updates the iScorecast site, when I am at the field using 3G. It only works when I am connected via wifi. My database size is approx 14MB as I have been using iScore for a few seasons now. Any suggestions??

Re: Export using 3G fails
Just responded to your email as well...
We have found that in cases like this, if you force your WiFi off (even though you are connected via 3G), it can help get your data to export. To do this, go to Settings, Wi-Fi, and set the Wi-Fi setting to OFF, and the "Ask to Join Networks" setting to OFF. Then try doing your export again.
We are not sure exactly why this seems to help, but we have suspicions there is some kind of network caching or something going on that causes the internet connection to occasionally get interrupted when Wi-Fi is turned ON, even if you are not connected to WiFi.

Re: Export using 3G fails
Wow, that's amazingly fast, I wish all support was as good. Here's what I replied in my email.
I'm not sure of the iOS, can't find the number but I am using an iPad1 with all the latest updates. I have actually tried shutting off wifi and only having cellular on, didn't work. Actually as a norm I shut off wifi when I am using 3G so it's not always searching for wifi and draining the battery.

Re: Export using 3G fails
If that is not helping, the only other thing it could be is spotty internet connectivity. We would love if you can check the iOS version just to be sure it truly is the latest. You can check this by going to the Settings app from the Home screen of your iPad, then clicking General, then About. There will be a "Version" row listed there.

Re: Export using 3G fails
Ah, i was looking for something that said iOS. Version is 4.3.3 (8J3)
I don't see it being the connection. I have full signal strength at my house when i just tried again tonight also, no other issues when using 3G such as surfing, sending / receiving attachments and navigation.

Re: Export using 3G fails
Could it be "timing out" for some reason? It often seems to take about 3-4 min before saying unsuccessful. That said, sometimes it takes just a few seconds to say unsuccessful. Could it be the size of the database? It's about 14Mb.

One more thing to try... again, sounds crazy, but give it a shot. Try powering off the device and powering it back on. To power it off, press and hold the power button along the top until you get the "Slide to power off" message. Slide the button to power the device off. Wait a few seconds, then power it back on.
This will clear memory on the device, and may help with the export.

Re: Export using 3G fails
Thanks, I actually tried that. I shut off wifi, turned on 3G, then powered off. I turned it back on, opened iScore and tried to export. It took several minutes but still gave me an unsuccessful error message...

Re: Export using 3G fails
Running out of ideas... we have successfully transferred 30+ MB databases over 3G. Takes time, but it works. One thing that used to be a problem was the screen "going to sleep", but that should not be happening any more as of a couple versions back. There was a time that people had to make sure they tapped their screen every 30 seconds or so to prevent the device from going to sleep during the export.
That is actually something we did not ask... what version of iScore are you using? Version of iScore is found on the title screen.
