As I understand the rules, a starting pitcher has to throw at least 5 (or 4) innings to be credited with the win. My boys are a 9u team with a 1 hr 15 min time limit. We rarely go more than 3 innings. My winning pitchers never get credited with a W. Is there a way around this or should I just let it go?

Sounds like you are trying to apply MLB Win/Loss Save rules to your youth league -- which may not apply.

If you have a standard for your league or one you want to establish, you have the latitude to do that.

ie NCAA softball uses 4 (or 3) innings in its determination.

I think all scorers for youth leagues run into this issue. I've never seen anyone attempt to establish a standard. My only recommendation is to assign wins/loses/saves in a consistent manner no matter what standard you use. For instance, I use a minimum of 3 innings to get the win unless the game only goes 3 innings. Then I drop it to 2 innings. Other than that, I don't put a lot of thought into it since a pitcher's won-loss record is about the last stat I ever use.
