email links

Post by Paulsilas » Sun Mar 06, 2011 3:08 pm

the new 3.0 version's release note mentions "email game links" - how and where in the program is this done (its says - "...just ask for the friend's email address and they can watch in less than a minute...")- i thought this was already a part of versions 2.xxx

wonderful additions in this release!!!

Go to the Misc menu, and the last option there is "Email Game Link". It will email a link directly to the game being scored without having to worry about entering customer IDs, etc.

the "new" part in 3.0 is every game now has a unique e mailable URL..

before 3.0 everyone had a device specific url that pointed to a menu listing of iscorecasts. and only folks who had a team web site subscription had unique iscorecast URLs for each game (accessible from the team web site). with 3.0 everyone with or with out a team web site subscription can generate a game specific iscorecast URL- directly from their handheld device - this makes it easier for all to share.

It seems to me that this can only be done after hitting "Play", correct? i.e. you cant send it out 15 mins before the game starts when you are getting everything ready.

Also, seems you cannot access the contacts directory here. Do you have to enter every email address each time? I think ability to select contacts when emailing game stats was added...would have expected same functionality here.

That is correct.. only after pressing play. The iScorecast does not actually exist until play is pressed.

The reason contacts was not added here is the use case seemed different --- it seemed you would have someone at the game saying they would like to see the game after seeing you are using iScore, so the chance of you having them in your contact list would be small. If there is a "plan" for someone to watch an iScorecast, you can send out your customer ID and the http://iscorecast.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; link ahead of time, and people can be ready to watch the game as soon as it starts.

You can also turn on "Twittercasting" and people can get links to the iScorecasts any time a game starts automatically.

I'm not sure I agree with this assessment, but perhaps I dont understand the alternative as well as I could.

I would think being able to send a direct link to that game right as the game starts would be helpful. Parents in the stands can now pull up this email on their phone, click the link and they are there. People not at the game, get a reminder that the game is starting and the direct link if they want to follow.

Otherwise, I foresee a lot of "what is that website again?" or "what is the user ID?"...

I guess I can email myself then forward that to a distribution list from email, but thats an extra step.
