computing player efficiency

Post by boracay » Mon Jan 17, 2011 2:18 am

Does anyone know of a formula or a link which would show how to compute player efficiency? It would help if the required stats to compute are all available in the iscore tool so it would be easier to compute. better yet, wouldn't this be a nice upgrade as this may be a good aid for those wanting to give out 'awards' to individuals of the teams? thanks.

most major/conventional stats are captured in iscore, .. the theory is the "elemental" activities and stats are in iscore ... allowing you to use or create any derivative stats that you need .. how one values and weights 'stats' is judgmental and no singular performance standard seems to fis all needs. what works great for some may not translate well for others, (eg, MLB may not translate to or youth ball)

if you want to further investigate baseball stats, value and use.. you may want look into sabermetrics.. tons of information, enough to make your head spin on what folks use and why.

as an example OPS and WHIP are now common stats that had their origin in saber metrics, where other sabermetrics stats like TPR have gained less acceptance and/or ben revised due to shortcomings

Boracay, this has been suggested before and is on FTM's to do list. It falls in the category of metrics so it may not yet be high on their list. I don't recall all the details of the suggested formula but points given for hits, hits with runners in scoring position, etc. Minus' for strike outs with less than X pitches, not putting ball in play with RISP, etc.
