Defensive info not included in Play by Play?

I don't know if I've not set something up correctly, or if it's working as designed, but our team parents pointed out that although they like the Play by Play that's available on the web site, it does not show the defensive side of a play (ie - "Gus H flies out to the shortstop" from Pitch by Pitch becomes "Gus H Fly Out" in Play by Play)

Do I have something set up wrong? Is there something I can do so that the defensive info will show in Play By Play?

Thanks.

the ball positon is shown visualy. sometmes hard to see if not paying close attention

FTM has used its judgement in its implementation of play by play, balanceing verboseness vs brevity. other posts have suggested a bit more verbiage in play by play, including Numbers.. ie 6-4-3 DP..

also the two viewers (html, and flash) and the third party app playbyplay, all have slight variation on degree of information in type..

It is a trial and error on user part for preference... I have come to like the HTML version probably the best..

Thanks for the reply, OhioTex.

I may be wrong because I haven't used it, but I think perhaps what you're referring to is what's seen in iScoreCast.(??) I'm not ScoreCasting live, rather uploading data to our site after the games. If I've misinterpreted your answer, please let me know.

It is working as FTM designed, but if you want to add more detail you can, just takes time and deffort on your part useing NOTES.

yes, you are correct, i was talking about the live casting... not the play-by-play link posted on the 'team and admin web sites', my misunderstanding... but regardless the same response same holds true (except for the visual clue on ball hit location). FTM has said they are trying to balance brevity vs verboseness. As mentioned before, some have suggested FTM add more words to the play-by-play and iscorecast and FTM has it on their list for consideration, but to date has indicated, probably not high priority.

As such, some users have taken to a manually adding descriptions to suit their preference using NOTES. It takes some time and discipline on your part, but what ever you type up in notes (eg. sharp chopper hit up the middle, or 6-4-3 DP !! ) shows up on the web link play-by -play and iscorecasts.

For example, when scoring i try to add color commentary in notes on balls in play that i think a viewer may find helpful to see in print. (eg, sharp hit up the middle, diving catch, blown call by ump, etc. etc. ). After games i often review the pitch by pitch editor and add notes on every ball put in play just to clarify location, for future reference and reading -- just like your parent expected. Next time you EXPORT, your notes will show up in the play-by- play in red with asterisks around the note (eg. **note text** ). This way you can be as brief or verbose as you like.

Thanks again. Your suggestions and experienced advice are greatly appreciated. I'm going to have to get a bit better with the product before I throw in typing comments with plays, but it helps to know that I would like to work towards being able to do that.

understood, sometimes the game moves quickly. but to be clear, I add many of the notes after the fact at home. If you have only a few balls in play, it actually goes very fast using the pitch by pitch editor.
