Player housekeeping

I looked through pages of FAQ but couldn't quite find the answer I was looking for, though I'm sure I've seen it before.

If I want to decrease the size of my player list by removing some players, will they still appear on the roster of teams they have been added to in the past for future games?

Player a is on Team b
after their game I delete player a from my player list (losing any stats associated to said player)
Now we play team b again - will player a still be on the team?

I tried to do a test, and I think it works, but I don't want to mess up the team rosters I have, as we play some of the teams more often in tournaments and such

You should not be deleting players from the player list if you think you will be using that player again (i.e. you mention playing team B again). If you will be playing a team again, leave the players intact, and just move them to a league that you keep turned off. For example, create a league called "Hidden Players" and anyone you don't want to normally see, put them in that league. Put everyone else in a league called "Show Players" or something like that. Then when you want to view the players, just go to league manager and turn on the "Show Players" league only, and turn off all other leagues.

Be sure when you do this that before you start adding new players, you have the right leagues selected. It is a common pitfall for people new to leagues to have the wrong leagues selected when adding new players and then wonder what happened to the player.

Thankyou, that is helpful.

Part of my problem is is that I have players with the same first name, and no last names. Their numbers aren't displayed in the player list so it is a pain to try and sort them out to prevent removing the wrong person. Your suggestion will fix that I believe.

the tip to not deleate players, but instead assign them to a hidden player league has worked well for me. although you will be tempted to declutter player manager by deleateing players, much better to just assign them to a hidden league.

i also have the first name only syndrome.. here is how i have tackled it over time.
to seperate the multiple and joe's from each other , to know specifically joe from bombers vs joe from heaters. ..

* if in advance if I know i will see the team again, I try and get both first and last names (obviously the ideal solution, but rarely practicle)

* if i think i will play the team again, I cheat and actually put first and last name in the first name field. that way players I really care about show up in player maanager with first and last names, players i think i may care about have blanks in last name.

obviously more often than not you do not have last names and did not know you would play them again.. In that case, one trick is to add a team name in the player name, generally as the last name. cut and paste works well for repeat typing.

another way is when i do come across a team later i played before, i go to the previous game or team, open it up and work the roster from there (vs player manager) to make names more differintiatied and visible as stated above

really becomes a question of how much time and energy to put in, depending on how much you care about .. the others...

Another suggestion for player management. If I am scoring games that are USSSA or Nations I go to the website team search the night before the game and input the roster names, then match up the names with numbers at the field.

Late rosters and first-name-only line-up sheets make for the biggest scramble at the start of every game (and our team is just as guilty as everyone else in the late-lineup department).

Here's what I generally do at the start of games (and a request for FTM):

- Look to see if the team has a web site the night before the game. As Danmcc said, that's a great way of getting the roster into the system.
- Make sure our team lineup sheet includes last names as well as jersey numbers, and request the names and numbers from the other team's scorekeeper. Sometimes we get only first names. No last names. No numbers.
- Make friends with the other team's scorekeeper as early in the pre-game activities as possible. It's usually just another parent, and they're generally willing to share the info. The biggest problem is they sometimes don't know the information.
- Demonstrate iScore results (score sheets and stats) to the other scorekeeper or coach. They're usually impressed enough that they'll be more willing to share the necessary info.
- I'll ask the other team's players for information. "What's Tommy's last name? What number does Joey wear?"
- Of course, I'm still standing behind home plate grabbing jersey numbers as each kid comes up to bat

FTM request: Can you generate a printable lineup form that we can hand to the other team at the start of each game and keep in our own dugout. In the past there have been requests for inputting fielding positions at the beginning of the game. Once that functionality has been implemented, the dugout version could include all the fielding assignments for each inning. In addition to printing our lineup, could you create a printable blank lineup form that we can give to other teams to request info. It should have fields for jersey number, last name, first name, and starting position, and include a section for the #, last, first for the subs.

I realize every team uses some form of lineup sheet already, but they're not consistent from team to team and league to league. My belief is that iScore will become the baseball scoring standard within the next few years. One way to assert that leadership position is to have a lineup form that can be adopted as a standard.

Both of these requests (pre-entered fielding positions and printable lineup sheets) are pretty high on our priority list, and we hope to include them in a release soon (though they will not likely be in the v2.80 release). Thank you.

I had another request,

could we also list the teams the player is or has been on in the Player list along with their jersey number

Would aid me in figuring out who is who in the list as I, like many other, never get a complete full/last name list from the other teams.

We will add this to our request list as well... thank you.
