Name Display Request

In the settings page, you have selections where I can choose to show the full name, the initial or hide the first or last name (and mix/match these as desired). My preference is to show first initial and last name. Unfortunately, many of the opponents we face give us lineups with first names only or last names only. Unless I show all of the first and last names, I can get some results that I don't care for. For example, if I get first names only with my normal preference, the play by play only shows the first initial of the players on the opposing team ([#8 C Steals third], [#5 C Steals second]).

I would like some choices to help with this. Maybe a choice for first name like 'Initial - full if no last name'. Something similar for 'Hide' would be good so that the user would see a last name if available and a first name if not.

My workaround now is to show both names and live with it. Also, if I only get first names, I could just put them into the last name field, but I'm hesitant to do that for possible future enhancements. Plus it would take a lot of time!

Petro, if your team is playing in a USSSA or Nations league you can get the first and last names via the team search function. I do this when the schedules are posted before a tourney so I have the names and I only need to add numbers and positions. Saves some time and battery.

True. We are almost exclusively USSSA and Nations so that is always a possibility, but in large tournaments, that can tough going into Sunday bracket play. There can be a lot of possible teams to play. I usually look up rosters for teams that we might play a bunch. I am currently using an iTouch with a Palm Pre as a mobile hotspot. I'll have the Pre on one leg with a Utrip roster pulled up while entering rosters in iScore. I have gotten to where I am quicker doing the copy/paste of rosters into excel so I can format them properly to copy/paste into the iScore Admin site, but that is tiresome and only works well if I have time before I leave for the ballpark.

We will see what we can do to offer more choices for how to display names. If you have some suggestions on what can go in the two dropdowns that are available, we can see about adding them. We would want to keep them short and to the point though... "'Initial - full if no last name'" is not very short, and not clear without a little thought. Thank you.

That's what I was afraid of. I'm thinking maybe a single checkbox option would be good, but I'm not sure of a clear label. Isn't that the developer's job? :) Ideas anyone?
